Spent right at $3800 on parts to repair mom's old car and sell the thing as we don't need it or want to insure a vehicle we don't drive.
Short of the paint everything else is either new or or close to it, And that $3800 doesn't include a minute of labor for all the repairs.
So I listing it a few places on line, CL being one of them.
So nut job texts today, not even seeing the vehicle low ball offering $2K,
.
I responded with No but my bottom dollar is $3,800. That's how much in new parts I purchased and installed in the vehicle.
This person comes unglued on me and starts cussing me out and calling me all kinds of nasty names.
Dude needs to go by his meds and the hell with buying a car.
pEOplE, Gotta love em.

Just sold my wifes grocery getter. A guy with a company by the name of Pedal offered me $6500 cash. Thing is, the KBB was $18,500. I sold the vehicle for $17,000. I told the guy from Pedal that he should rename his company to something I won't mention here.

I had a car dealer friend years before the internet and you sold cars through the newspaper.
He would get the paper every morning and call everybody that had a car listed for sale and offer a stupid lowball price.
If he called 100-5 would agree to his lowball offer and he made lots of money doing it.
I agree with just do not respond to the lowballers
The internet is strange like that,I have cash in hand and am in front of what I want to purchase before negotiations are started and sell the same way.

What's the car's value before you put the parts on it? I hate to be the bearer of bad news but putting a bunch of money into a car typically doesn't make it worth a dime more. It's weird... most people expect a car to function properly when they buy it... not pay extra because you decided to catch up on deferred maintenance that should have been done over the previous years.

I had a similar situation with one of my boats I had for sale. I told the guy I had a better offer than what he was offering and he started spewing all kinds of nastiness. I told him he should have lunch at a pharmacy, that might help him.

Right but this one is especially idiotic. Hey man, I put $3800 of parts into a car without counting labor costs so I could try to sell it for $3800, and I’m gonna go on a rant to try to make someone no one knows look dumb when really I look like a fool by posting.

You all are a trip.
1) I didn't get mad. The entire conversation was via 2 texts.
He asked if the vehicle was still for sale.
I responded yes.
He responded with, well, your price didn't say firm so I'm only going to give you $2K and I'm on my way.
I responded, No your aren't. I have $3800 in to the vehicle in parts and repairs. Price is firm.
At this point the nut case sent a nasty text cussing me out. I deleted the text and blocked the moron.
End of story.
I don't know where a couple of you got I got made, blah, blah, blah.
Just point out the idiots are running ramped today.
As for the car, The book value is mid $4K and the vehicle is way under mileage.
I guess I rebuilt it as a good by tribute to mom and the damn thing needed the repairs anyways.
I won"t sell somebody something that's dangerous and not tell them or at least fix it first.
