Default Personal Financial Software

I have HATED Quicken since I was forced to start using it a couple of years ago. Even with back-ups it has lost monst of last years' transactions.

Time to ditch it and get something that is easy to use & works

I need the software to pay bills online (including scheduling recurring payments), keep the checking register, and reconcile the checkbook (I do it at least once a year). No need for investment tracking, budgeting, etc

How is MS Money ?

Any other suggestions ?

Thanks

I have used Quicken for the better part of 10 yesra and never had a problem. Anyway, maybe your bank has software and/or online account management, they are usually no cost to thier customers.

I've run Quicken since 1995ish and have no regrets. My current data file goes back to 1998 and I've never lost a transaction. I tend to update to the "current version" every couple of years, with the latest just a couple of months ago....

Its likely your computer doing you wrong....

I've tried the others but nothing seems to work as well......

Quicken is the least intuitive & most difficult to use software that I can think of - just hate it. I upgrade each time it comes out hoping it will get better.

All of the scheduled transactions remain, none of the manual transactions (hand written checks, or deposits) are in the file. It's odd as I have at least 5 different backups on different dates and the manual transactions are missing from all of them.

If you use it, I would recommend using their online backup service so they can restore your data in the event that the files get corrupted or lost.

btw - I use Quickbooks at work & think it's awesome. Quicken sux

My bank offers an online service, but thinking it makes more sense to go with Money if I decide to change banks

I've been on Quicken since it was DOS. Anyone actually remember DOS? That's before Windows.
Yes, there are some things I would like to see different, but overall, I've been more than satisfied with Quicken. I keep our personal checking, business checking and track 5 brokerage accounts. I used to be the treasurer for an organization I belong to and kept the books on it as well. I backup religiously and my backup takes up over 100 megs of space. That's how much info I have stored on Quicken.
Comparing Quicken to Quickbooks is like comparing a Honda Civic to a Nascar race car. Quickbooks is a very powerful business accounting program.

Chuck:
DOS???? Man, are you old! (I guess there may be 2 of us remembering DOS). I had one of the first portables, an Osbourne that operated off of two truly "floppy" discs; one for the program and one for data.

My first computer was a 386 with Windows, but when I bought Quicken, it was still a DOS based software program. A year or two later, they up graded to a Windows based program.
If I'm not mistaken, this was back in 91 or 92.
