Employer ID Numbers (EINs)

An Employer Identification Number (EIN) is also known as a Federal Tax Identification Number, and is used to identify a business entity. Generally, businesses need an EIN.

It may be the same on your last years W2 if you are working for the same company

I believe it is asking for the EMPLOYER'S EIN, which would be on the W-2.

I try and file my taxes as early as possible myself, also using TurboTax, but how is it possible to file BEFORE you have your income and witholding tax info from the W2 form?

In my opinion, sending in your tax return without everything you need (W2's) is rocking the boat. Don't rock the boat with the IRS.
Just my opinion.

If you e-file, you don't send in the W-2 anyway. But I'd wait until you are sure you got all your 1099s and the W-2s. It is only another couple of weeks. Not worth the hassle of ammending IMO.

Yes, the EIN is the employer ID #.

OK, gotcha, as long as those numbers agree 100% , with what shows on your W2 you should be OK.

Don't do it.

It only takes one 1099 for interest or something to trip you if it comes in around the end of the month.

If the data does not match what you file, you're asking to get audited. The only way to avoid THAT is to file an amended return which is a PITA.

Wait until you have all the forms - by law they're supposed to go out by Jan 31 for nearly all situations.

Please, WAIT for your W-2s and 1099s.

There may be income reported on 1099 forms that you aren't expecting. Insurance dividends, savings or checking account interest, whatever. Your YTD earnings on your pay stub aren't reported. They may even be adjusted on the W-4 tour employer sends you (and the IRS). W-2 and 1099 forms must be mailed out by the end of January, so just wait until February's a week old, at least.
