Default Why is my computer slow on THT??

I have a new Dell laptop and I am having trouble with THT only, it seems the pages load very slowly.

I have tried other sites and everything is normal and I have used my office computer and also our kids computer and everything seems ok.

Is there something I need to change on my setup??

What can I say guys... I pay more each month for this state of the art dual xeon server than most people pay for their luxury sportscars. I do not know why your browsing is so slow. I do know IE7 has had many problems with this.

For me, THT zips right along at blazing speed. Yes, it does slow down when 700 people are online, this is no surprise as most sites crash with that many online at the same time.

IE7 USERS PLEASE CLICK BELOW:

ALSO - Many state you have new computers, Your new ANTI-VIRUS might be causing the slowdowns.

when multiple users are using the search feature it slows the forum down. maybe it's time to restrict the search to captains club members in order to save the forum speed.

Over 34,000 people will use THT today. That's an insane number and slowdowns will occur.

I haven't used IE in years, I only use Firefox.....I just download the latest version of Firefox and it didn't help with this site......I have zero complaints anywhere else on the net. Actually things can get so slow on here in times I'll get messages saying that things have timed out, please try again.

I'm not so sure limiting the search to CC members is a good idea.I'm not saying it's a bad idea either.I would just give that idea some more thought. Couple scenarios. A user comes to this site, does a search, finds exactly the answer their looking for, doesn't feel a need to post. No post, no entry in the database. User goes away with favorable opinion of site. May lead to return, or telling others of the site, which may lead to more CC members. You never know. Another scenario. User comes to this site, realizes you can't search without a CC membership, gets a littleturned offby that fact, leaves site seeking answers through other sources. Doesn't re-visit this site because of initial experience, a potential (slim chance, but still a chance) CC member foregone.

Perhaps rather than restricting search function to CC members only, limit ability(or frequency) ofposting by non-CC members. Just a thought.

Also, if the slow down is occuring when users are querying (searching) the database, then some database tuning/re-architecture might be in order.

One item I may add. I have to disable my firewall while I'm logged on to THT.

Trydisabling the firewall(for troubleshooting purposes only), if you have a software firewall. If THT speeds up with your firewall disabled, you've found the problem. Most firewalls will have an option to "Allow" inbound and outbound traffic from a site of your choosing. You'll be able to allow THT traffic, while still keeping the firewall invoked.

The database is fine. The next logical solution is actually running the database on a seperate server.

Don't have the funds for this right now.
