Default How's traffic around D.C. these days?

I have to take a route through the D.C. area and am wondering what traffic is like now, both during non-rush hour and rush hour. I used to spend a lot of time down there a few years ago and I would avoid it if at all possible, but I'm wondering if it might not be so bad right now with all the lockdowns and remote work going on.

To me it seems like it’s as bad as ever. During the
“lockdown “ it greatly improved, but it’s back to normal if you ask me.

It is back to being quite bad. Probably a hair better than "normal" but not at all as good as it was earlier in the COVID mess.

I have found it is not DC or the beltway that's a problem. It's northern Virginia, from where I 95 leaves the beltway down to Fredericksburg. It's a friggin nightmare!

Stay as far away as possible from any vehicle with diplomatic license plates...

I grew up there, from 1961 to 2003....I hate going back...describing the traffic as gridlock is being polite....

Traffic is nearly back to normal. Rush hour will always have slowdowns and often stop and go.

If you can, avoid the "mixing bowl" section in VA where 495 and 95 come together as well as the VA section of 95 just south of 495.

You can count on the daily backup at the Occoquan River bridge southbound and around Fred it’s tough going. Consider 301 on certain days.

It is fine, there is effectively no rush hour now.

That said, traffic in DC still sucks in general

If you are coming from farther north there are alternate routes Rt2 out of Baltimore to 301 into Virginia or going west to I-81. I think I would still prefer going around DC at 2100 hours or later if that was the best option for distance.Going south that should get you to south Georgia near the Florida line by sunup. Then you have to figure out how you get down through Florida

Wow, Disappointed to read all this. I was really hoping for more along the lines of "it's only really bad at peak rush hour", especially if you compare with how bad it normally is. While I was there for a while I had to do the 66 rt in VA (which was a mess) and the beltway in MD (which was also a mess). Didn't spend much time in the 495/95 going south but many folks I worked with did that and I was sympathetic to their cause. That's the area I'm headed, and it would be on a Friday afternoon or evening. Yuck.

Do they rent helicopters that can pick up cars yet??

It’s gonna suck, even more so if there’s weather.

Nothing sucks harder than 95 south on a friday. for amusement look at the Waze app this friday around when you are contemplating and you will see solid red.

All my Fridays are half days or less as a direct result

It was horrible when I lived in Woodbridge and commuted to DC back in the 90's. It's gotta be worst now.
1-1/2hr commuting 25 miles door to door.

Haven't been to DC but traffic everywhere I've been seems to be back to pre-hysteria levels.
