Throw them a change up. Say "At the start of the day ... yada yada". I will get you a verbal status like no other.
But, all things being equal, I'd say it's the same as "at the end of the day" depending on your time zone.

It’s on CNBC constantly in interviews. And usually it’s a CEO or analyst talking about some long term business strategy, acquisition, expansion, etc and they say “at the end of the day” we expect to gain market share. No! At the end of a year or two will have gained market share.
Next time someone says this to me I’m going to ask them which day are they talking the end of. Today, tomorrow, next Friday??

Let's face it, at the end of the day, we need to manage our way through it. Put our heads down, talk about it and meet about it. Let's get our arms around the idea without putting another brick on the wagon. In all seriousness, it is what it is. We've got lots of arrows in our quiver, but we need to aim first, and shoot second. I'll be honest with yah, we just need to get a grip on the concept and understand that a rising tide floats all boats and we don't disagree with it.
I hear this weekly and it all makes me puke.

The phrase I hate the most...."Have your cake and eat it to"
Uhm...if I have my cake, guess what...I AM ALREADY EATING IT'.
It's not like I have my cake and I cannot eat it.
I don't really like cake that much anyways...(well, a good carrot cake with good cream cheese frosting is good).
