I'm hearing that the tourist traffic isn't slowing down like it usually does this time of year.

When you're on the road for multiple days, do you book a hotel in advance, or just pick something out and pull in?

I almost always book ahead. No surprises.

Depends on time of year. If things weren’t Covid crazy I wouldn’t book ahead but with everything going on and places reopening, I think it would be wise to reserve ahead of time. People are fed up with being locked up.

Lots of kids not in school. Many missed vacation from March to July. Things are open-ish now, time to use some time off.

We'll usually find someplace and crash in the back of the truck. Or, if pulling the boat, crash in there.

We're actually heading to Powell in a few days to spend a week and, from what I've been reading, the crowds are still WAY above average/normal, even for this time of year. Gonna be hard to spend the week naked with the Mrs if there's gonna be people everywhere.

EDIT: To answer the OP's question. If we're going to stay in a hotel/motel we usually wing it. We will call ahead and check availability a few hours before we get in the area but for the most part, we'll just roll in and find something suitable.

I’ve done three round trips NC / FL recently. No issue with rooms. I usually go until I’m 30-60 minutes from where I think I’m ready to stop, then book something through Expedia. Plenty of choices of brands and price ranges.

Jump in the back of our RV, crack a beer, cook dinner, sleep. Coffee and shower in the a.m. and hit the road.
