Default School me on red apples

I'm tired of buying apples and they are either mush inside or have zero flavor. What is a good sweet, crisp flavorful apple to purchase?

Honey crisp... always a safe choice.

Mutsu's if you can find them.

Cosmic crisp are a new variety also good for what you describe.

honeycrisp - however they need to be fresh. Now is a great time as this is the season.

Most apples are placed in cold storage and distributed throughout the year. They don't hold up as well if not fresh.

Fuji is my favorite. Crisp and a little tart.

Honeycrisp followed by fuji. My three kids eat them by the bushel. More expensive but worth it.

I can tell you that, from my experience volunteering at the elementary school... teachers like Honey Crisp over anything else.

A Stayman Winesap knows what an apple is supposed to taste like.

Just finished off a peck of honey crisps from the mountains. Awesome apple and they're even better when cold. The store bought ones aren't even close.

I hate an apple with a velvety texture as well. If you press the apple slightly and hear a “pop” it won5 be velvety on the inside. Red apples are normally sweet around November/December in our area. Honey crisp is usually sweet year round.

I really like Fuji apples. Crisp, flavorful and has the right amount of juice. The ones with dark red skin don't taste as good as the lighter colored skin, or yellowish skin. I've ate one a day for 15 or so years.

If you can get them......Crimson Crisp and Pixie Crunch are my favorite. We have a couple great places to pick apples up my way. We picked a 100lbs two weeks ago, $1.25 a pound. I made about 5 gallons of apple sauce, wife made 5 pies and 4 or 5 apple crisp. Kept in a cool dark area apples will easily 6 months

My new #1 red is Jazz apples. I don't care what size Jazz I have had, they are always crisp and full of flavor. They kind have been hard to find the larger ones since Covid, though. We find them at Kroger's in these parts.
