I have offered to drive them and we may still do that. As a plan B what do you think is the safer form of travel? They have taken Amtrak pre Covid, about 13 hours but seemed to not mind it.

If they're elderly, you should drive them.
Unless you're looking to collect your inheritance

Unless they're moving, I can't really understand why they would need to go anywhere. Want to go, is a different story. And that involves some personal responsibility and risk taking for people in high risk groups. We dont allow my wifes mother to go anywhere. Not even store. If someone visits....they stand outside 8 ft away and chat.

Plane all day. Mask up and upgrade to 1st class if possible. Try to get them early boarding as well.

Thanks for the feedback. My sister has a terminal disease with no cure. That is why they are looking to go to Connecticut. I'm still not sure what I am going to have them make the trip or not however.

Drive. Use the restrooms in hotel lobbies while in route. Cleanest roadside bathrooms there are.

CDC seems to believe that planes are slightly safer, but neither one is great.

Drive them, and be there to offer support (and gain support). Seeing your sister in such a state will be hard for everyone involved.

I have done both since Covid. I felt less at risk on the amtrak train than the planes. You can literally step out of your car and get straight on the train. So you avoid the thousands of people along the way that you would have with the airport. The bathrooms are bigger on the train too, less to touch. They keep people pretty well spread out on the train.

Dude, I live in the hood by an Amtrack station. No masks, generally poor health to begin with, homeless using it to move from city to city. No way in hell would I consider rail for my elderly parents.

How elderly and how competent?

I'd probably drive them if I could. And you could see your sister as well. Sorry for the circumstances.

Planes. Less travel time and better air filtration. Less travel time= less risk of exposure.
