Default VAG-COM or similar... anyone have it... looking to rent or borrow, will pay...

I'm more than willing to pay shipping, etc... need to run diagnostic on a 2015 VW Golf Sportwagen TDI. Have references that I return things better than they were sent to me.

TIA,
Pete

I have one but I am not local, and by the time you pay shipping + insurance both ways you are almost better off putting that money towards purchasing one yourself. The 3 VIN model is only $199.

OldPete, what are you trying to do with it?

When I needed to retract the parking brake in order to replace the brakes on my S4(yes, manual) I got a Carista. Since then I have used to to do minor stuff like resetting maintenance intervals, etc. It is inexpensive and handles a bunch of the computer stuff on these cars to diagnose, customize and service(in their words). It is very user friendly using your phone.

That's pretty interesting! Cheaper (by a lot) than a VAG-COM... I don't love the pay-to-use, but for $30 and then $10 a month... as long as you can turn it off after the month. That might be a good choice.

Do you know if it can do everything a VAG-COM can do? I'm going to read more on TDI-CLUB and Vortex.

Thanks!

You may be able to find a good samaritan on a local Audi/VW forum who can meet you and run diagnostics. Way back when I had my B5 A4, a local guy came and ran his computer on my car to sync the nav up.

Should be easy to find VAG in south Florida. I’d rent a Lamborghini and head to south beach and target bachelorette parties. Should be able to borrow one for a couple of hours. Not sure how much it would cost to rent VAG though...

I used to be on the myfastgti.com forums about 10-12 years ago and a member created a map for VCDS owners who were willing to share. I owned one for a while and helped people out in my area a lot. Sold it a long time ago unfortunately or I'd send it to you for free.

Here's the map:

I just bought the VAG-COM. LOL. 3 VIN model... Wife actually said, "Just stop and buy it, we're keeping that car until it stops." I guess she really likes her diesel manual sportwagen. I gotta good wife. :-)

“Per performance” about $300

For repeated encores, I’ve paid up to $1000

Those rental prices are a few years old though and may vary on the condition of said goods.
