Had a good friend who used to top loblolly pines and he actually got excited in anticipation of the ride but he was crazy to start with.

Hope the saw was off. He surely had to know, but on about the fourth swing I may have had second thoughts.

They could have tied that down when he popped the top...The video is all over arborist pages. Consensus is that he's a "cutter" not an arborist.

I've done similar on flagpole trees but nothing ever nearly so extreme. I absolutely would not take that risk. Too much could go wrong

Did that with a Locust Tree many years ago! Was in a tight area. Had a Rope from My Truck to the Tree...Guess it was a little too tight! ....Made cut and WEEEEEEEEEE....I took a ride. I had a Saftey Belt on, BUT had a Death Grip on that Tree that The Belt never came into play!!

if the tree was tied to your truck too tight, how could the tree move after you made the cut?

Im guessing he had the top part he was cutting tied off to the truck so it would fall where he wanted.

I wonder what their workman’s comp rates are.

I know a logger who had to fire all his tree cutters and buy a feller buncher. The workman's comp was equal to their pay.

I know Roofing WC can be up to 25% of pay with no claims. A few accidents and I can see how easy you can get to 50-75% of pay for WC. Sit in a nice AC cab and cut down and process trees all day long. Beats using a chain saw. Feller probably paid for itself in year one.
