Default 1911 Hand Gun

Is it blasphemy to get the 1911 in anything other than 45 caliber?

NOPE. The 10mm is pretty damn cool if you want something a little different.

If you already have a .45 ACP 1191 then you can branch out. Otherwise stick with .45 as the 1911 in that caliber is magical.
10mm is a good alternative. 9mm is good for older shooters with hand pain or women with low hand strength.

You are required to own one in .45 before getting as many as you want in different calibers.

If you are getting a 9mm, make it a 9MM Super. Cool little round, with a little more pop than regular 9mm.

Mine are all 45's though.....

I have plenty in .45 but a 9mm for IDPA competition is the ticket. Slightly higher capacity, quicker follow up shots and just a great choice.

Yes. Unless your 1911 is a plastic one like a Glock. Then it’s de rigueur to get it in 9mm. Along with a double latte.

STI is complete garbage. Only posers shoot them. I'll stick to my Taurus 9mm.

Note use of sarcasm font.

I mostly have .45s but the only reason that round still exists is the 1911. It's not particularly great or anything.

The only reason I would recommend a 1911 in 45 is that it's a little easier to make them run well. But if I could trade all of my 45s for 10mms tomorrow, I would. 9mm... little more of a toss-up. Building a 9mm 1911 that'll go 2000+ rounds between stoppages is a bit trickier than doing it with a bigger round. People will tell you they have cheap 1911s that have never hung up on them...they usually have not put more than a thousand rounds through a single gun, and they will also frequently have forgotten the six failures to go into battery their RIA had in the first six boxes of ammo.

Which is also very frequently all the ammo that gun has ever eaten.

I've always wanted a 1911 to add to my collection, but I just can't get past the grip safety. I know it's a personal thing and most people think I'm crazy but I freaking hate it. If it wasn't for the grip safety I'd be all over 1911.

G36 is my go to carry. Bought it as its a close cousin to a 1911. Something about a .45 is just so nice.
