Default Have you ever won anything of significant value...lottery, raffle, Vegas, competition

Driving down the interstate today and noticed the Lottery Jackpot sign and as usual, I start daydreaming about the ''what if'' we hit the jackpot.

I think the tens or hundreds of millions given in a single jackpot is way too much for one person to handle. I don't have the desire to live the ''country club'' life and try to fit in with those with that kind of means.

Wife and I have been playing my deceased mother's lottery numbers weekly since she passed. We have hit numerous times for free tickets, and small payouts under $100. One week we did get 5 out of 6 with the multiplier. It paid $10,250.00! Had we gotten the 6th number it would have paid about 4 million which would have been plenty for us to enjoy in our current lifestyle and not have to move to the ''bigger house with new friends''. Anyway we paid off a few bills and went to Vegas for a weekend. 20 years or so of playing Mom's numbers and we are probably a bit underwater in what we have spent compared to our winnings but it is fun and....you never know!

What was your big win?

$5k on lotto. Got 5 of 6 numbers. Paid for the wedding 15 years ago. Probably haven't played 10x since then.
Sometimes I think back that if I would have had 22 instead of 25 I would have won $12M. Dang.

Not a life changing event, but I did win a new cataract surgery(phacoemulsification) machine at our annual convention in Vegas 15 years ago. It was at an educational symposium for third world surgery missions, tickets were $100 to benefit the missions. I won, about two weeks later they delivered this huge box to my office. The hospital here had just bought a new one, so I sold it for $25K(half price) to a group in Utah. Paid for my first center console boat.

My dad won my first truck at a HS athletic booster event. $100 tickets, and they drew tickets out and last one was the winner. Lots of prizes for the other tickets. When it was down to him and one other person, be bought them out for 6k.

other than that my big winnings have been a god many guns at various DU/WTF type events. Won 4 guns at one event in Charleston.

Not me, as I have zero luck with games of chance.

But my Ex-Wife is a different story. She won so much stuff can not recall it all. Things like 2 week paid for vacation to Europe during Oktoberfest, Week in Vegas paid for by Visa with a Visa card and 20k in spending money, paid for trip too and backstage passes to I-heart, Paid trips to music festivals all over the US, paid vacation to Estes park in Colorado. Five years after divorce still have stuff she won like crawfish cookers, guns, etc... Honestly it happened so much became common place. To this day she still wins stuff all the time, it is unreal.

Biggest thing I ever won was a $25 juicer at a work giveaway employee appreciation event. Young guy next to me, one number off, got a tv. Ipads, iphones, more tv's, etc. available.
I went to a casino when I was 20 years and 51 weeks old with my fake id. While I was getting kicked out my younger brother was winning at blackjack. Had to have the intercom page him under his fake name to meet me outside.
My second and last time going to a casino I bet on black 15 times in a row as red kept on coming up. Cleaned me out in 5 minutes while the guy next to me was betting the opposite of me and killing it. Red ended up coming up 21 times in a row. The whole board showed red. It was then I knew I was not a gambler and stopped.
Luck is not my lady.

my first time at a racetrack(Garden state) I won a $4 exacta for $1500..I'm not much of a gambler though. I grew up with bookies, so I saw how the betters could never stop.. the more they won, the more they bet.... A guy would collect 2 or 3k and lose double the next week.. some of them couldn't pay because they blew their winnings so fast...

I’ve won guns in CCA raffles and gift baskets in raffles. That’s about it.
