Default F'in Sailing Gypsies.

I hate these people. The transient gypsie on some sh!t-box sailboat that was docking in the slip next to me found out that I was leaving for a few weeks. I get a call from the marina just wanting to confirm if I told this guy he could use my slip while I was gone which I did not. He went into my slip and was telling the marina that I said he could use it so he would not have to pay to stay. Before I left he told me he was heading out the next morning so I guess he saw an opportunity to stay someplace for free and took it.

Sounds like the marina will have some additions to the chore list today:

1. Kick out the sailboater
2. Restock all the bathrooms with toilet paper and soap.

They already kicked his butt out. Its just unreal these people. I run into a few of them a year passing through. They all have boats that look like they are going to sink packed with several outboards, close line, orange extension cords from Ace as shore power cords, rope from Home Depot for dock lines, some old as hell beet to hell kicker mounted to the transom with a gas can in the cockpit feeding it.

Hope this isn't a stupid question, but is that just an expression or are they really some kind of gypsy? Where are you located? I ask because I lived in Memphis for a while and there is an actual gypsy population there (technically "Irish Travelers"). Weird, insular culture; they'll steal purses off of church pews. Is there actually a nautical version of these people?

They are the worst! You can smell them from 1/2 a mile away when they are on a mooring. Total cockroaches.

yeah, been one at the marina for some time now. He did not secure his shitbbox during hurricane Laura and his mast took out the cleaning station. Unusual high number of them tend to be hiding from the law.

That's when the marina will see that the sailboat may be taking on water and hauls it out and puts it on the hill just to be safe.

No cash No splash.

My marina is a very popular spot for people going up and down the ICW. A lot of these gypsies will anchor out in the harbor than what do you know. An outboard is missing, a GPS antenna is missing, a power cord or splitter is gone. There are so many of them out there now, coming in this weekend and having them watch me unpack my boat and go home knowing that no one is there does not make me comfortable.

Ah. You just don't like poor people. Rich kids are fine, but those who struggle to make ends meet are not.

Homeless but with a marginal boat by choice and often times they have a “what’s yours should be mine” mentality. I’ve seen them in action around Morehead City.

Sure, we can go with that. I don't like people who choose to be poor, not work, live on a boat, take advantage of situations, steal TP and cleaning supplies from the bathroom, use household objects in place of proper marine-grade equipment, and then get run out of town.

Good attempt at Virtua Signaling.

We were at the town docks there one night and there was this POS sailboat out there with a couple and a little kid. It checked all of the boxes, two outboards, several jerry cans, rundown paint, doubt the sales worked or the rigging was up to standard, POS dinghy with 3rd POS outboard, 4th POS outboard was screwed into the transom, a few 20# propane cylinders, tarp over the boom. The wife must have had some mental health issues. She was out there for hours, I mean hours unloading on this guy like I have never seen. We almost called the cops but decided to stay out. She was throwing his stuff overboard, unloading, going down, coming back up, throwing more crap overboard, screaming again. The next morning they took the dinghy out to get back as much of their stolen TP, power adaptors and cleaning supplies then they came to shore like a happy family.

Okay, so noted.

(by the way, it's "virtue")

(also by the way, it's not virtue signaling. When I go by you in my 4-knot shit box, you'll look at me, spit, and mutter "f'in gypsy". So embrace your hate.)

No, I don't because at that point I don't know who you are. Its when you come to my marina, crap up the docks, things start to go missing and you start squatting is when I hate you.
