Default hardwood floors and expansion joints

when installing strip plank nail down solid hardwood floor, everyone says leave an expansion joint (space) all around the room. easy enought on ends and sides--t - 1/2 inch or so. Done but what about if there is a doorway on the side width of the room flooring and more hardwood is laid on the side of the existing boards , and it continuse to build width "side ways" thru the door and then sideways as another room is laid. Is there a maximum suggested width for the two rooms or is there a need for an expansion joint left to right in the doorway?

Hard to describe.

Never heard of the need. We have a pretty large area with only expansion joints along the walls. I would be more concerned with having properly acclimated flooring. I would also be concerned if install was in the dry winter season with too low of a humidity level.

unless your area is larger than a basketball court I think you are fine.

None needed through the door way, think of it as a continuation of the field of the floor as long as you have room for expansion at walls parallel to the doorway.
