Papa Murphys Pizza

Anyone own one or more of these franchises? Curious why they can't catch on in FL. SWFL and Orlando markets are down to 1 store...from a good bit of locations. I really like the pizza.

alligatorgar 09-04-2020 02:08 PM

My preference is Sam’s choice supreme frozen pizza from Walmart and sams club.

MTSkibum 09-04-2020 02:12 PM

They are just starting to catch on in Houston. It is my favorite chain 🍕 chain by far.

Jus Teasin 09-04-2020 02:17 PM

I've never heard of them. But I'll look
Mellow Mushroom makes some fantastic pizza ended up closing a couple of places down here. (WPB & Ft.Laud.) Only one left is in Delray. :(

tartuffe 09-04-2020 02:21 PM

First time wife and I ordered from there and I drive up amd she hopes out to get it. She comes out holding this pizza and I'm thinking "what, no box, and how in the hell is she carrying that hot pizza like that?"

Prostarmke 09-04-2020 02:22 PM

The best pizza's don't come from chain restaurants

Agree. I like the concept, some don't. Bring it home and put in oven for 12 minutes when you are ready to eat.

Grunts N Grits 09-04-2020 02:33 PM

$15 for a pie that I still got to bring home and bake myself?
You have to wonder why they ain't catching on here in FL?
Where the median hourly wage is about $17 per hr?.....

popeyeiii 09-04-2020 02:41 PM

We have one here. The Costco and HEB bring home and cook it yourself pizzas are just as average as Papa Murphy's and half the price. For $18 for a large pizza, they can cook it for me too.

Not that many fuqs are given here as we don;t do pizza anymore.

Cole Medina 09-04-2020 02:43 PM

Had one open near me. It closed about 2 months later.
My girlfriend brought one home. It wasn't cooked.. I didn't "get it".
She cooked it, or warmed it up, or whatever their gimmick is... It sucked!
I took one bite and every topping on the slice came off on me, my shirt and counter top.... First and last bite of that crappy idea all in one.

soflah3 09-04-2020 03:12 PM

Florida is the wrong Demographic. People don't do take a bake in Florida. Maybe in Wisconsin or Minnesota when 8 months of the year the weather sucks. My kin folk in MN in Iowa live on the stuff. I personally don't get it.

AttitudeAdjustment 09-04-2020 03:16 PM

Yep it tastes like a frozen pizza from the grocery store. Home ovens donít do as good.

bhfishing7 09-04-2020 03:18 PM

Dominoes cooks it for me for 6 bucks and gives me reward points.

Yep. They are very popular here in WI.

Itís a solid pizza, a little pricey, but solid. And they have WAY more stuff on them then any other chain joint.

FishnDive 09-04-2020 03:25 PM

Nothing like getting a hot pizza delivered to your door just the way you like it. Uncooked pizza comes under the category of groceries

Graddy-fied 09-04-2020 05:16 PM

We had one here in NC. I thought it was great. It closed after a year.

There is one in Gainesville and one in Eustis that is still open to my knowledge.

N D H 09-04-2020 05:32 PM

No offense to those who like it, but I thought it was terrible. I like the local mom and pop places, sadly, we are loosing them.

Have eaten at the Mellow Mushroom in Jax Beach. For a chain, its pretty good pizza.

Im going against the grain but I canít stand mellow mushroom pizza. I do like their wings though. Pizza is trash.

Their dough bites with beer cheese dip is good.

Brezinup 09-04-2020 07:49 PM

I usually can stomach anything. Eat almost anything and never get sick. But one time which was the last time, ended up with food poisoning from PM's. No more for me.

Stim 09-04-2020 08:43 PM

Making pizza from scratch is so easy why not do it yourself?

cdrhoek 09-04-2020 09:09 PM

Good pizza requires a real pizza oven. I think the coal fired ones are the best. The conveyor belt systems used by Dominos and other chains produce nothing better than the higher end frozen stuff.

I looked on their website , and the closest one to Williston is Mount Dora.
I be happy if there was one in Gainesville.

The "Mighty Meaty" is a fine pizza!!

25WildBlue 09-04-2020 10:28 PM

Spoiled pizza geek here. Mellow mushroom is trash. Never had this papa Murphyís. Costco take n bake ainít bad if Iím there buying other things and need dinner.

Have a soft spot for dominos. But itís just that, dominos...itís not pizza. Same way Taco Bell is just that, Taco Bell. Itís not Mexican food or tacos. But sometimes I just need it.

maintenanceguy 09-04-2020 10:33 PM

Never heard of Papa Murphy's. I'm assuming it's not just a supermarket brand? You order and pick up or get delivery of an uncooked pizza? What makes this better than adding an uncooked pizza during our weekly grocery order. It sounds like the chain does well in some places so I must be missing some detail.

You like Domino's and Taco Bell, and you think MM is trash? ..... Your taste buds have dementia!

The Peddler 09-04-2020 11:15 PM

Hereís a ďPro Tip,Ē cook your ďTake and BakeĒ pizza in your pellet grill. It takes a little longer, but itís pretty good.

halfwaythere 09-04-2020 11:23 PM

Does not matter who you buy it from, who cooks it or doesn't, pizza here in Florida is the worst of the worst.

smith202073 09-05-2020 02:56 AM

They have several here and are always crowded. Can get an XL pepperoni for $8 and their salads are the best.

best pizza to eat as far as reheating, the crust crisps up nice.

Lprizman 09-05-2020 05:38 AM

All food in Florida blows....except for those crab legs

lazyboi1212 09-05-2020 05:45 AM

When I lived in Denver they were everywhere. Its a great concept. Pick up a pizza on your way home. Pizzas were big with lots of toppings. Good not great.

Fl is 25 years behind with everything. So we should start seeing them here soon.

Appleman 09-05-2020 06:05 AM

I enjoy getting served in a sit down restaurant, but when we lived in Michigan, liked PM pizza. Get a stone pizza cooker for your oven, pre heat it. Makes a big difference

nicecast 09-05-2020 06:12 AM

I've been in the pizza business. Rent and labor are the killers. Models that minimize these two cost centers work well. Those that don't can become victims of their own success. That's why Mellow Mushrooms, with great brand, product and beautiful high traffic locations, close down.

That's why I thought this concept would work but has failed in SWFL. Strip mall rent in B grade locations, 3-4 employees on shift, good pizza (in my opinion). Yes, you need to take it home in toss in oven.

mwgoldman 09-05-2020 06:34 AM

I think itís about convenient locations. At my old house I could order from work, pick it up on the way home, wife would preheat the oven and it was done 20 minutes after I got home.

now the papa Murphyís is 10 minutes out of the way. So, itís not worth it anymore.

I think itís better than the other chain pizza restaurants. Dominos/papa johns/pizza hut. But, a ten minute drive gets me a local pizza joint take out now so I havenít been to papa Murphyís in years.

STIPulation 09-05-2020 06:41 AM

Distance to home also make a difference. If you've never been out west it can be hard to understand. If it's a 40 minute drive home a hot pizza is going to be shite by the time you get there. Papa Murphy's is a step above frozen.

the_gooch 09-05-2020 09:46 AM

Sicilian Oven peasants.

It's because Florida was 10 times better 25 years ago.......but you people keep moving here

dave8311 09-05-2020 10:03 AM

We like Marco's.

They used to use fresh mushrooms, but have switched to canned now. Yuck.

Haven't been able to eat Pizza since my surgery several years ago, so I'm not current on the quality.
