Papa Murphys Pizza
Anyone own one or more of these franchises? Curious why they can't catch on in FL. SWFL and Orlando markets are down to 1 store...from a good bit of locations. I really like the pizza.
|
My preference is Sam’s choice supreme frozen pizza from Walmart and sams club.
|
They are just starting to catch on in Houston. It is my favorite chain 🍕 chain by far.
|
I've never heard of them. But I'll look
Mellow Mushroom makes some fantastic pizza ended up closing a couple of places down here. (WPB & Ft.Laud.) Only one left is in Delray. :( |
First time wife and I ordered from there and I drive up amd she hopes out to get it. She comes out holding this pizza and I'm thinking "what, no box, and how in the hell is she carrying that hot pizza like that?"
|
The best pizza's don't come from chain restaurants

$15 for a pie that I still got to bring home and bake myself?
You have to wonder why they ain't catching on here in FL? Where the median hourly wage is about $17 per hr?..... |
We have one here. The Costco and HEB bring home and cook it yourself pizzas are just as average as Papa Murphy's and half the price. For $18 for a large pizza, they can cook it for me too.
Not that many fuqs are given here as we don;t do pizza anymore. |
Had one open near me. It closed about 2 months later.
My girlfriend brought one home. It wasn't cooked.. I didn't "get it". She cooked it, or warmed it up, or whatever their gimmick is... It sucked! I took one bite and every topping on the slice came off on me, my shirt and counter top.... First and last bite of that crappy idea all in one. |
Florida is the wrong Demographic. People don't do take a bake in Florida. Maybe in Wisconsin or Minnesota when 8 months of the year the weather sucks. My kin folk in MN in Iowa live on the stuff. I personally don't get it.
|
Yep it tastes like a frozen pizza from the grocery store. Home ovens don’t do as good.
|
Dominoes cooks it for me for 6 bucks and gives me reward points.

It’s a solid pizza, a little pricey, but solid. And they have WAY more stuff on them then any other chain joint. |
Nothing like getting a hot pizza delivered to your door just the way you like it. Uncooked pizza comes under the category of groceries
|
We had one here in NC. I thought it was great. It closed after a year.

No offense to those who like it, but I thought it was terrible. I like the local mom and pop places, sadly, we are loosing them.

Have eaten at the Mellow Mushroom in Jax Beach. For a chain, its pretty good pizza.
Their dough bites with beer cheese dip is good. |
I usually can stomach anything. Eat almost anything and never get sick. But one time which was the last time, ended up with food poisoning from PM's. No more for me.
|
Making pizza from scratch is so easy why not do it yourself?
|
Good pizza requires a real pizza oven. I think the coal fired ones are the best. The conveyor belt systems used by Dominos and other chains produce nothing better than the higher end frozen stuff.

I be happy if there was one in Gainesville. The "Mighty Meaty" is a fine pizza!! |
Spoiled pizza geek here. Mellow mushroom is trash. Never had this papa Murphy’s. Costco take n bake ain’t bad if I’m there buying other things and need dinner.
Have a soft spot for dominos. But it’s just that, dominos...it’s not pizza. Same way Taco Bell is just that, Taco Bell. It’s not Mexican food or tacos. But sometimes I just need it. |
Never heard of Papa Murphy's. I'm assuming it's not just a supermarket brand? You order and pick up or get delivery of an uncooked pizza? What makes this better than adding an uncooked pizza during our weekly grocery order. It sounds like the chain does well in some places so I must be missing some detail.

Here’s a “Pro Tip,” cook your “Take and Bake” pizza in your pellet grill. It takes a little longer, but it’s pretty good.
|
Does not matter who you buy it from, who cooks it or doesn't, pizza here in Florida is the worst of the worst.
|
They have several here and are always crowded. Can get an XL pepperoni for $8 and their salads are the best.
best pizza to eat as far as reheating, the crust crisps up nice. |
All food in Florida blows....except for those crab legs
|
When I lived in Denver they were everywhere. Its a great concept. Pick up a pizza on your way home. Pizzas were big with lots of toppings. Good not great.
Fl is 25 years behind with everything. So we should start seeing them here soon. |
I enjoy getting served in a sit down restaurant, but when we lived in Michigan, liked PM pizza. Get a stone pizza cooker for your oven, pre heat it. Makes a big difference
|
I've been in the pizza business. Rent and labor are the killers. Models that minimize these two cost centers work well. Those that don't can become victims of their own success. That's why Mellow Mushrooms, with great brand, product and beautiful high traffic locations, close down.

I think it’s about convenient locations. At my old house I could order from work, pick it up on the way home, wife would preheat the oven and it was done 20 minutes after I got home.
now the papa Murphy’s is 10 minutes out of the way. So, it’s not worth it anymore. I think it’s better than the other chain pizza restaurants. Dominos/papa johns/pizza hut. But, a ten minute drive gets me a local pizza joint take out now so I haven’t been to papa Murphy’s in years. |
Distance to home also make a difference. If you've never been out west it can be hard to understand. If it's a 40 minute drive home a hot pizza is going to be shite by the time you get there. Papa Murphy's is a step above frozen.

Sicilian Oven peasants.

We like Marco's.
They used to use fresh mushrooms, but have switched to canned now. Yuck. Haven't been able to eat Pizza since my surgery several years ago, so I'm not current on the quality. |
