Default New Bank Choice?

A friend of mine in Florida needs a new brick and mortar bank, choices are Bank Of America or PNC Bank. What thoughts or experiences does anyone have? Thanks in advance, appreciate it. Dave

A local credit union is the way to go in my opinion.

PNC locations are kind of limited. Originally from Pittsburgh, I held onto them for a bit when I moved down 13 years ago but ended up going with Chase. BoA sucked a big one.

As someone in the banking industry, F*CK BoA. Local credit unions or small community banks are the way to go.

BoA - never again...

They held my mortgage for a number of years and one year decided to pay my property taxes on a different house. Took ~4 months to unravel that and no one ever apologized or offered to make it right. This was around the time when they started to train their tellers to direct customers to their ATM machines. Took my business elsewhere soon after.

Am now with a local credit union and service is fantastic. They also don’t nickel and dime me either and I can talk to a functioning human being whenever I need to.

I have no complaints with BOA. I do very little in house banking anymore, 99.99% of my business is done over the internet. I pay 0 ATM fees at ANY ATM and I accrue interest on my checking and savings accounts albeit minuscule. But I have everything through BOA and it works well for me.

As far as my mortgage goes, I checked a few boxes on my application and I ended up paying my taxes and insurance on my home myself, and I love that.

Unfortunately B of A merged with one of our local banks and closed several branches. I have decided to bank elsewhere besides B of A mostly because it used to be convenient but those happy days are over. I have no experience with PNC brick and mortar.

I do most of my banking with Fidelity Investments. They offer pretty good banking services.

Approx location in FL? Are they looking for a run of the mill or a private wealth bank?

I've been with Space Coast Credit Union for decades. Either way, stick with a credit union. Much better terms and fees.

Agree with the majority. Find a local credit union. BOA is horrible.

I like Bank of America and I'm probably the only one. I use it for a large checking account. It works great online and being able to make transactions. However for my business I use the local Community Bank for the personal service

BOA I don't care for at all anymore. PNC I used to use years ago and was never impressed.

Local credit union is way to go that being said I do use Chase lots of locations all over florida in addition to a local credit union.

I use PNC and have had no issues. I compared fees, etc and they were competitive. Have used them for lending too with no issues.

Here's my $.02. If your friend travels a lot, he/she needs to check what banks are in the area they travel too as well. I prefer a small local bank, but the ATM fees were starting to rack up when I would go visit family in NC I would up having to go with Well Fargo,, mainly because they are everywhere I travel and I hate to carry a lot of cash. I can't stand paying $3-$10 a pop to take out money from an ATM.

City National has been fairly good to me for 25 years.... Really depends what your friend is looking for ...
