Default Federal appeals court strikes down California's ban on high-capacity magazines

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday struck down Californiaís ban on high-capacity magazines on the basis that its restrictions violate the Second Amendment -- noting that it would criminalize half the magazines in the U.S.

Excellent. Just goes to show how emotional laws can be struck down when it finally gets to someone who has half a brain.

Oh, ETA, the "who needs that many bullets in a clip" crowd will be sure to follow.

Yeah, thought that would have excluded the 9th.

There is hope.

The makeup of the 9th has changed dramatically in the past few years.

Many eastern states already have a ban for mags holding more than 10 rounds...
This just might end up being a game changer for those states too...
Only time will tell....

How does this translate to Massachusetts? Should they have to follow Federal law? Not joking

Please elaborate on your thought here. Increased from what to what?
Are there currently limitations other than those imposed for use while hunting?
Serious question because if there are, I need to become educated on them. TYIA

Why would the federal court find that California has unconstitutionally taken the right for HMC's but not any other State who has done so as well? Is it less unconstitutional on the east coast?

Here's another article that suggests a full 9th court appeal by the California Attorney General Xavier Becerra may result in the 9th court allowing the law to stand.

Hope not but it may be too soon to hi-five.

No. I'm thinking those states haven't been sued yet, or, it has gotten far enough.

This should change things. Maybe they take it to the SCOTUS. Go for it.

Yeah, my brother just told me in CA it's 3 round max for a shotgun here.

Other than detachable magazines, which are rare in shotguns, I am unaware of any laws that limit there capacity. Shotguns fall into the fixed magazine category.
the three round ‘limit’ people are thinking about is most likely for hunting.

its good to see this ban shot down. I hope it gets applied nationally. It would be nice to order mags through the mail again.

Mag rules were 10 for years. I can remember bringing my XD into the state after college and had to get 10rd mags. Glad it was shot down since East Oakland has more extended magazineís then Iv ever seen in any state. Iv been on scene of a police officer being killed by an extended mag that a felon gangster had in broad daylight East Palo Alto. Iím glad I donít live in California any longer. They are literally removing the last layer of protection. The big cities response times are lacking and have been. I donít feel safe going back anymore. I canít posses ammunition that is brought into the state IN a California purchased and registered go rearm. We drive into the state and they wonít let me bring ammo into the state and I canít buy it since Iím out of state res now and they passed an ammunition law preventing online ordering and bringing in from out of state. I guess they think Iím going to just throw gun parts at a perp. The state is a joke, itís prison system is failed, law abiding people have no protection, hell the deer hunting even sucks now!
