If you Have to ask , you need to get your butt to the ER now, this is something we dont mess with.
We don't need a THT'r down and out. Go get it checked NOW.

Not me, but the wife. This has actually been going on for two days now, basically a localized pain that won't go away. She has a very low threshold for pain so the fact that she's not paniced yet is good I guess.

Is the pain just below her sternum , just below her rib cage right side or fell like its in her lower middle/lower back and does the pain move around.

I'm with welder! Diagnosing why your DSC on your VHF won't talk to your chartplotter is one thing, well, it's a big thing, but not nearly as big as diagnosing appendicitis.

Get down to the ER or at least your GP immediately!

OK... for the sake of discussion.

I'm an ER doc so you can trust me...!

You can't do this kind of thing over the internet. So go to your favorite ER..... now if you are still home wondering what you should do.

Appendicitis is only one thing it could be..... there are several more worrisome things that can cause harm and death quicker than appendicitis although this is what most lay people think of first.

Us doctors always have a "differential diagnosis" created in our heads as we take a history and do a physical exam. The list is sometimes created in this fashion:

Lets use abdominal pain for example:

What are the problems that could kill this person now:

Abdominal aortic aneurysm, ischemic bowel, trauma induced solid organ rupture, sepsis, ectopic pregancy, ruptured appendix.. to name a few.

What are some of the more common but less deadly problems:

ovarian torsion (usually doesn't kill anything but the ovary), pelvic inflammatory disease, appendiciitis, bladder infections, kidney stones, viral gastorenteritis, pancreatitis, gallbladder attacks and stones and infections.... just to name a few..

This is just the short list.... age of the patient, other medical conditions, vital signs and so many other things go into what gets on the list. We put statistacal weight on different diseases as we go along..... what fits best.... what do I need to make sure isn't happening... what is the patient worried about..... do they look sick or do they look better than I feel.... the pain is here therefore these diseases are more likely than this....and on and on

Diseases do not usually present in a fashion as they are presented in texts and media. Everyones appendix is different and some are actually on the left side!

What do the books say about appendicitis? Starts out periumbilical.. migrates to the right lower quadrant, pain, fever, anorexia, vomiting.... don't count on it! Your mileage may vary.

Oh... and never ever trust your health to something you read on the internet!

Richard

Have known quite a few ladies who have had gallbladder attacks after having children. Hope you read this from your ER or GP's office.

8 hours in the ER, a Catscan, and an Ultrasound later---ruptured ovarian cyst. Doctor pointed out though that this was the first case that he had seen where the patient responed to the physical examination in the manner that she did yet wound up not having an inflammed appendix.

Funny how this began on the 1st of the year after my deductibles started over. She could have gone to the ER for free on Dec. 31st due to having met deductibles and calendar maximums from child birth back in June.
