Radishes
Is there things one can do to not grow such a hot radish? If they are Really Hot, does that mean they didn't get enough water or is it just the type of radish it was? Does leaving them in the ground longer make them hotter?
This is the first year in growing them. If mine were horseradish it would be killer goooood, because they are HOT. |

When you do grow them, you can make good use of the greens by pureeing them in potato soup. I hate to throw away clean greens so we tried this and it is outstanding and reportedly healthy.

Garrett, I grew Daikon White radishes a few years ago. They were not hot. Not your typical small round radish but still good.

It’s all about the seed.

I have found the smaller ones are not hot

I read that finely chopping radishes makes for a hotter sauce like Wasabi. Given that info don't chew them but rather swallow them whole:trout:
try cutting them and let them sit uncover. That might tame them down. |
When one of my sons was about 12, he pulled up a horseradish root from the farm and decided to prove his manhood by taking a giant bite and chewing on it. I laughed my ass off as his face went pale and then to bright red. He spit it all out and ran into the house to wash the heat out. The water he drank actually intensified the heat. I don't think he's had any since then.
Garett, I've found that well watered radishes are cooler than those raised in more dry soil. |
