Default Trying to be positive

Everything is read is negative. Everything on TV is negative. Politics and money. Though I only care about money. If you are a contrarian maybe it gets better,

Perspective is everything....we have been through far worse as a nation...we will get through this too....filtering the MSM really helps, remember they are all driven by ratings, so sensationalism is their game, not facts and truth....enjoy your family, work and rec time....simple pleasures....personally, my faith has been the rock I stand on...

“I only care about money”
If you’re having trouble being positive that would be a good starting point.

That will do it for today’s session.
Pay at the front desk on your way out and make your next appointment.

I make an effort to read the pure, the powerful, and the positive. I try to limit the tv. What tv I do watch I try to limit to the positive.

Ain't that the truth. This would be considered hearsay but it's the truth. A co-worker of my wife took her mom to a urgent care. They had her stay in the car and fill out all the paperwork. AFTER the papers were filled out they were advised the wait time was a few hrs. The daughter said bump that and they went home. 2 weeks later the mom received a COVID 19 POSITIVE result. I guess they got some of her dna off the paperwork and had that tested???

You are correct. What I meant was I care more about my financial well being than politics. Not the end all.

The best thing I did for my own mental health was to stop watching MSM and reading newspapers. No commercial TV at all, except Sunday afternoon NFL, and that may change.

Where I live, if I didn't frequent this forum I wouldn't even know there was a pandemic happening.

Now, Publix just messed that up so I'm going to try food delivery.

Ignorance is bliss, right?

Turn off the news.

Turn off the radio.

Put the newspaper down.

Stay out of the bilge.

Some of us, such as you, are born as electrons. it is hard to change your charge (and according to Heisenberg) impossible to know both your location and velocity at the same time. Maybe things will be better if you consider yourself a positive radical.

The political divide has always been there and always will be. It is just thrown in our faces 24/7 by mindless talking heads on MSM and social media now. As mentioned, limit your exposure to the news. Cherry pick your interests and discard the rest.

Every generation has it's share of ''crisis''. Think back on what you have witnessed and been through in your lifetime.

Being born in the early sixties I can remember we had a constant fear of being attacked by the Soviets and their atomic weapons. Had a step brother do 3 tours in Nam, so watching the evening news and looking for his face in the parade of dead bodies was a nightly event for our family. The riots and protests of the sixties and seventies broadcast nightly into our homes made it seem like they would be knocking down your door any minute. He survived and so did we.

Mid seventies was in High School and all that mattered was girls. Started making money in the eighties and all that mattered was money and girls. Got married in 1989 and all that mattered was my wife, and still does!

Gulf wars, Afghanistan, plane crashes, natural disasters, family issues, etc. it's all apart of life and eventually history.

We will get through this. What we look like on the other side may be a bit different but in reality what is around you is what should matter to you. I can't control some idiots pulling down statues for whatever reason in some shithole city but I can control whether or not I want to watch it, discuss it with others or let it ruin my day.

Keep the negative to a minimum and focus on the positive.

I completely understand where you're coming from and I'm as jaded as they come unfortunately. But don't be like the 20yo malcontents crying into their $1000 iphones that these are the worst of times. Imagine if JFK, RFK, MLK assassinations, Kent State and so on happened today? These safe space, offended-by-everything pussy's heads would explode. They don't even know what the eff they're protesting or mad about.

Remember there's a happy medium between not caring/not staying abreast of current affairs and becoming engulfed in misery by the ambient bullshit which is sensationalized and magnified by mass media and social media.

You are old enough to know that current politics will change. It isn't permanent. Just observe enough of what is happening to be able to make wise investments and let the rest wash over you.

This is pretty much my wife and myself. We are busy running a business, adding onto the house, keeping in touch with the kids, going out on the boat a little, and enjoying ourselves. My dad watches all the news, and at 79yo is miserable because of all he watches and gloom and doom. Not to bury your head in the sand, but, all that worry, is accomplishing....nothing. We go about our day, wear a mask only when required, go out to dinner, leave 25-50% tips, and rest good.

Three items of note:
First, not everything is negative. It just feels that way. The media are attention whores - they only care about getting you to "stay tuned". And guess what, nothing gets you to "stay tuned" better than a tragedy or emergency. That's why teh news skips from one tragedy to the next. If it bleeds, it leads. And they've only gotten worse over time.
Second, get in the habit of saying "on a good note, ..." . It can force you to find more good things. Over time, people will wonder you you are so damn cheerful all the time.
Third, you are being manipulated now more than ever. Regardless of your political leanings, it is in the best interest of the media for you to be angry. They don't make money off of happy people. They need folks to be disgruntled.
