Default Horses?!?

Wtf. A $10 pony ride has turned into who knows how much over the last decade. An 80’s bayliner with a force outboard is a better idea, and probably more reliable.

The shit we do for our little girls. So much for fishing tonight.

The wife of a guy that I work with got the bright idea that she liked horses. One $20K purchase later and she has her horse.
Don't get me wrong, I love horses but you need to marinate them for quite a while to make them edible.

Kids wanted to ride horses but wife would not bring them to riding lessons because she rode horses and "knows" everything. Buy a horse, one month later the horse kicks her and now its Daddy's fault the horse never gets ridden.

I hate horses, when I was a teenager, mucking stalls was an always available option to make $5. I hated moving those big dumb animals around, always trying to squash me against the wall. I am not a horse person but I do like looking at them in a field. They sense that I do not like them.
I have the same effect as Frau Blucher

Only thing crazier than a ‘Cat lady’ is a ‘Horse lady’

I love horses, worked on the racetrack basically my whole life, that being said I never ever brought my kids around the track I knew I didn't want them loving horses too.

I had one when I was a kid my dad told me something years later I've never forgotten. 4wheelers dirt bikes and boat can be stored and just put some gas in them when you want to ride them. A horse on the other hand has to have feed shoes and vaccinations wether your riding them are not. In less you have the land for one (witch we did) your better off renting one.

oh sweet Jesus, don't get me started.

my lady has a thing for percherons

I thought, great, they can also work for me on the property. Reality set in and it is lots easier to just jump in the excavator.

30 years ago when I met my wife she told me "I don't cook, I don't like to clean and I will always have a horse". She is not a liar! The day someone offered her $50k for her horse she paid $5k for and turned it down was the closest we ever came to divorce

Had a buddy who's wife had everything either Lighthouses or Horses ( pictures, coffee table books, shower curtains, etcetera) always talked about how she loved horses.........So he surprised her with one for her birthday.......turns out she had never ridden one and was really afraid of them. After boarding another one on their property for a friend they now have two 800# "dogs".

Default Horse

Our little girl takes riding lessons and loves it, well guess what? My son went one day to get out of the house and now he’s taking riding lessons too. Turns out they both love it....we’re never getting a horse, never say never.

I’m not sure what is worse. The money, the tome or just general bs. I guess the good news is at 16 she’s more interested in being at the barn then hanging with boys.

Parents had 4 horses when I was a kid. Somehow I got pegged to feed, water and grain them daily. Hate the beasts.

WIfe has always loved horses and had one just after we married. Moved to Homestead in 1982 and built an 8 stall barn that she used as a boarding stable. Her horse was bread and the foal was born into my daughters arms. That's almost 40 years ago. My daughter went away to FSU and was making C grades. We shipped her horse to Tallahassee and her grades improved to A's & B's. She was on the FSU Equestrian Team. After she married and had a daughter, her daughter started riding and showing at age 3. She's now 10 and has showed at Devon and a lot of other Class A shows. I guess what I'm saying is that I've put up with horses for a LONG time but it has paid off, keeping both my daughter and grand daughter at "the barn" and out of trouble. It even led to my daughters marriage as she met her husband thru another FSU Equestrian teammate. It was her teammates brother. During the boarding stable part of our life, my daughter was given the task of running this "business" and it paid for all her shows and a lot of her horse expenses. The horse business was great as it was a positive cash flow, negative income for tax purposes. My grand daughter, at age 10 now owns 2 ponies. She outgrew her first, but would NEVER sell it. Don't even think about it. And the 20K figure above is a relatively inexpensive horse.
. The name of my first boat was "Sea Horse" She had hers and I had mine. There was always a big debate in our house as to which was more expensive, horses or boats/fishing It was almost dead even.
