Default What ever happened to...........

I was a doin' a little drinkin' last night and sittin' out in the shop and got to reminiscin' 'bout some of the things that seem to have disappeared during my life time.

1. Handguns with deep, rich blueing that you could use for a mirror. Envision the blue on the old S&W 27's or Colt Pythons......... Everything today is either stainless steel or black as midnight. Ugly, ugly, ugly..... and what ever happened to grips made of real WOOD?????

2. Boots that aren't waterproof and aren't made of some exotic leathers and aren't insulated. Just plain old cowhide with regular soles.

Those were just a couple of things that came to mind, please feel free to add to the list.........

Ckeck out http://www.kimberamerica.com/pistols.../goldmatch.php. Browse their selection and I'm sure you will find something you like. The Raptor II rules but the Eclipse Custom II is right up there.

Common sense and courtesy............ I guess the "inoculation" has eradicated those in my life time.

Being able to buy a couple boxes of Sudafed and not have to sign your name on a watch list.

Being able to buy a 1000 lbs of Ammonium Nitrate fertilizer and not be asked what you're doing to do with it and not having to sign yet another watch list.

Trusting people that you've known for many years just because you've known them for many years and not because you ran a background check on them.

Not having to press 1 to proceed in English.

Not having to supply your new employer with 3 different forms of identification to prove you are eligible to work in the US.

Let me see, playdo, Donnie and Marie, being able to smoke at school in the court yard. Being able to shoot your true blued gun off in the back yard, being able to carry your fire arm into a bank, K-Mart, Wallmart......Do not get me started. Bee Gees, Blondie, Elvis Costello...just kidding I am more of a Merle Haggard/Johnny Cash fan.
I remember being able to settle fiights on the football field and your parents did not sue each other! God, did I beat the he|| out of Dan Hurley that day. I was not sued!

Bailey, I like the refuge you have out there in the "shop". I believe every man needs what you have there. Sorry my S&W 686 is stainless. Did you finish off the Jack in the shop?

Customer service.

Or at the very least feeling like you are valued as a customer, rather than a bother to the sales clerk who has to checka you out.

Bailey,

Having once owned both an S&W model 19 (.357 6" mag classic blued with Goncalo-Alves wood grips), and a 629 (.44 mag 8 3/8" stainless with Goncalo-Alves wood grips), I can relate to your dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs.

The model 19 literally gleamed like a mirror. It was almost a perverse pleasure to clean it after each session at the range, and the grips really contrasted nicely against the blued finish.

The model 629's wooden grips did have a tendency to feel as if you were holding onto a rasp file while someone smacked it with a sledge hammer (I loved to fire the old 220 grain CCI "lawman" loads through it), so I once tried a set of Pachmeyer rubber grips. They looked ugly, gave the weapon a thuggish look, and actually did less IMO to absorb the recoil than the wooden grips did. So I went back to the wooden grips.

S & W should give you the option of ordering both the classic blue finish and the Goncalo-Alves wooden grips. I guarantee you that both, if offered today would outsell the current "blued" finish or composite grips.

Courtesy and respect would definitely be high on my list along with rights and freedoms. Where has honor gone, a manís word gone to, or how about the hand shake deal? Then there is persecution from those which are more corrupt them me, yet they win because of the f#@ked judicial system in place.

I was just reading: Detective Anthony Chiofalo (NYPD) tested positive for pot in a random drug test and was suspended without pay. As it turns out, so it is said, his wife was substituting pot with oregano in his food and it showed up in his drug test. Anthony said he knows his wife uses pot to ease the discomfort in her back at the departmental trail. Blah, blah, blah..........the point Iím trying to make is pot is illegal, Anthony Chiofalo is a cop, yet it is alright for his wife to buy and smoke pot and you or I would get popped for a joint!

Oh and arenít we not seeing the death of Christmas as we speak? I donít think our grand kids will even know what Christmas is at the rate itís going.

I got to thinkin' about this thread and here's what I came up with.......I know - look out! It's gonna be somethin' STUPID ~

I miss Kinney Shoe Stores. Anybody else remember REAL shoe stores??? You know - the kind you walk into and there are seats on two sides; those funky little stools where a TRUE shoe SALESPERSON (hopefully a MAN in my case... ) comes and helps you find the shoes you'd like to try on; goes into the back and gets them down off the shelves in the CORRECT size; comes back and helps you try them on. SIGH.....just like Cinderella... (Hey! It's MY fantasy, OK!?)

Anyway - I miss those. Now I just run to Payless Shoe Source, grab a box off the rack, throw 'em on the floor, try 'em on, grab another pair (cuz it's BYGO) and out the door I go ~

You know what really gets me these days is watching kids going to hockey practice wheeling their bags. What the hell are shoulders for? I guess the new "soft" NHL is to blame.
