I hink we can clearly ignore the fact that Korea was officially a Police Action rather than a war due to the fact that congress never declared. It started in 1950 and went to 1953 when the armistice was signed between the Communist forces (NK and China) and the UN.
You are correct, a state of war does still exist - but between NK and SK only.

The answer is:

WWI: 1917-1918 - two years

WWII: 7 December 1941 - 2 September 1945 - Three Years nine Months

Korean War: June 25 1950 - July 27 1953 - Three Years One Month

Vietnam War: 1965 - 1973 - Eight Years (troops deployed rather than just "advisors")

Iraq War: 20 March 2003 - 16 December 2006 - Three Years Nine Months

So it is...

4
2 and 5 tied, soon to be 5
3
1

Interesting stuff. See more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Militar..._United_States

This is true. And likewise congress also never declared Vietnam, nor the current Iraq thing, whatever it is. Neither of those fit the Constitutional prerequisites of "war" concerning our participation, not that it matters. The Korean Conflict was the beginning of the UN’s involvement in globally managing “wars”. The US has not technically been to war since.

I think it was a Rep from Texas (Ron Paul?) that tried to put a bill before congress to declare war for the Iraq situation, claiming that was the right way to do it, and Rep Bob Barr chastised him saying we no longer live in a time where there is a need to declare war.

When you place thousands of troops on their soil, haven't you in maybe a small way "declared war"?

I think Libya declared war on us after the "Line of Death" incident. Is it still a war if one side ignores the other?

If you put them in order of casualties, the order would be much different...
