Default Credit Card hacked!

Find out today that some A-hole is using my wife’s CC. They made a $461 payment to T Mobile last week and airline ticket from LAX to Texas. Not sure if flight has happened or not. Tried to get a few grand at Best Buy but it was flagged as suspicious.
She’s done all the typical stuff to notify CC company, cancel card, do fraud alert stuff.

I called T Mobile and informed them that someone used her card. Have the date and amount and obviously paid under her name. (We don’t have a T Mobile account either) and they asked if I had the users account or phone number. If I had that wouldn’t need to be calling you. I was hoping they could look up wife’s name and tell me which account was paid. Nope.
They said they couldn’t tell me anyway or they be liable if I put my foot up someone’s backside.
CC company said they are handling it and will credit money back.
F’ing scum bags. Probably better I don’t know.

Yeah there's nothing worse than a lowlife POS doing this crap. Worst part is getting autopayments and such switched over to a new card. Good thing is the CC companies take care of you.

Still though....357 Magnum seems appropriate.

My wife and I kept getting scammed somehow......

They would get our numbers and buy mint mobile service, eBay purchases and anything else you can think of. Thing that tipped me off the first time was the mint mobile sim card showed up at my house. I didn't order that.

Long story short, we no longer use a debit or credit card at the gas pump only pay inside and it hasn't happened in over a year. I won't let that happen again.

Your credit card will get it sorted and you move on
Hopefully you find out how they got the numbers and avoid that habit like the plague.

You can sign up for instant alerts on many CC’s...

Really nice having Apple Pay/CC during check out at so many locations these days...no need to touch keypad or even have a physical card in many instances.

Do you have a smart phone? Download your Credit Card and Bank Apps and get push notifications or at least sign up for email alerts over $xxx.xx. I get a notification for both my credit cards on my phone and any activity on my debit card which is only used for cash at ATMs.

With these in place you should only get 1 charge that is not yours .

This is exactly why you should not be using debit cards. With a CC it's not your money and other than annoying you don't get hurt.

‘Yup. I credit this site for me going to nothing but a credit card For purchases. I use Amex Platinum, they have called me many times due to suspicious activity. Many times they were right. They have taken my side every instance.

Happened to us a few times even with the chip card, banks don't seem to care they just cancel the card & send you a new one. We now use Capitol One, have one card that all the auto pay bills go on, & don't carry that card or use it for anything else. Have a second carry everyday card that we use. I get a text from the bank every time the card is used over $5.

Rampant now with folks using cards on phone and sites. Happened to the wife ordering masks. Sale was denied as were immediate attempts to use the card. Visa called 30 seconds later.

I've had this happen too many times to recall. I too have alerts set up to send me both a text and e-mail when any amount over $1.00 is charged.

Most currently I was notified of a charge to Amazon on 5/17/2020 for $1207.34. I immediately contacted my card issuer and this charge was cancelled and a new card sent to me. On 5/19/2020 I received a message from amazon that "my" order would be delivered that day and provided the address where it was being delivered. Armed with this knowledge I contacted Amazon to tell them this was a fraud and stop the delivery. I was assured by the Amazon rep that my account would be credited and the delivery cancelled. Neither happened and I received a message from Amazon later that same day that "my" order was delivered.

Now, Amazon has locked me out of my account due to fraud!! I'm currently battling Amazon to get this straightened out.

The flight was on 5/19 and return was 5/21.
how the heck does anyone think they will get away with this. Kinda hard to deny it was you when FAA checks ID when boarding.
Same with T Mobile.
Hope they prosecute them.

I used to do purchasing for my company, the card would get hacked 2-3 times a year. No biggie, it would be on the monthly statement, CFO would straighten it out and they would have a card in the mail next day. Most interesting one was a bunch of craft brewery supplies down in New Zealand, No one seemed interested in going after them

I had this happen on my old BofA account. I got the persons name, found out where she worked (City of Oakland) and gave her a call. She got all upset that I found her online and it was 'none of my business'. Hung up and called her boss, another city employee, who fired her. Her name wasnt on any voice mail directory when I checked a few days later. It sucks, but its a CC and not coming out of your pocket.......directly.

well, if they bought an airline ticket they shouldn't be too hard to find cuz that requires your name... There's a moron for you. Either them or whose name they bought it for to fly will definitely lose that battle....convicted.

same with paying a cell phone account......idiot

Credit card fraud department will run those down those are easy wins for them.

A few months ago they used one of mine to try and buy $135 of Pizza in Phoenix Arizona and the credit card company said ......ummmm...no.

Could be worse. My wife spends so much money it seems like fraud every month when I go to pay the bill.

....
You can always use a credit card to buy a ticket for someone else. Person using the ticket may not know a stolen CC was used to buy it and then the flyer is innocent.

Yep. Lots of card skimmers. Employee's jack the CC numbers and sell it. All sorts of crap. Annoying but always covered.
