Default Evinrude out of buisness?!

Evinrude out of buisness. Sad to see. I saw a lot of potential in their outboards considering 500 hours no maintenance. Anyone else shocked by this?

been a long time coming, Not a surprise at all. A shame but not a surprise. BRP has been trying to shed their purchase of OMC products in 2001, for years.

I know they were trying to dig themselves out of the failed ficht motors. Just crazy to see a major brand go. Wouldnt be surprised if a new one steps in. Seems like Yamaha is leading the industry.

I have 3 OMC products that continue to serve me very well. Haven't bought one since 1991, though.

had twin 225s nothing but a nightmare. First one popped at 20-30 hours 2 months in the shop and the first trip out the second one popped. In the shop again this time for 4 months and finally ready so 6 months in and only 30-40 hours and a busted season.
First engine had a meltdown on the 2nd trip of the following year, by then writing was on the wall Rude went under and that Canadian company took over.

Long story short owned the rudes for 3 years took the boat out 10 times in that time and spent over a year total in the shop ended up selling the rudes for and got back about 15% of my investment in them....not even enough to pay haul outs and time on the hard.

All that said Im sorry they are gone but Id never buy a product from them again.

I wouldn't be worried about parts just yet. They just stopped making new motors this week. I think you'll be ok for a while. I probably wouldn't repower with a brand new etec right now, unless there was a crazy good deal on it, but I wouldn't be acared of a boat deal just because there was an etec on the back.

When it comes to parts, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but seems to me there has been a govt mandate for years, that mfg's have to supply parts for a minimum of 5 years after they stop making a piece of machinery.

I had an Evinrude 225 1986 outboard, 115 Johnson 2000 outboard and and 2019 etec 115 all great outboards. But the ficht was a mistake for them

There may be some good repower deals coming for sure didn't think of that.

I searched for a thread before I posted this one. Didn't see anyone mention it. I guess I didn't search hard enough. But when people come on and post useless responses like this is the 10 post. Cool glad you can read. It's unnecessary. If you don't want to contribute to the thread subject don't bother typing.

225 and from 1997ish
Spent many hours on the phone and with the reps before rude went bankrupt, and then with the Canadians.
Guy I sold them to had many hours of trouble from them as well, and yes he knew the history, he parted them out after several failures.

My etec gave me 800 trouble free hours before I sold it. Was a great motor.

They are still in the Marine business. It's a wild guess, they will have a 4 stroke out within next 5 years. Called 4tec.
