The worst neighbors?
With the new (not so new anymore) house I am blessed with a great neighbor to share the mountain (really a hill) with but at the last house I had some interesting neighbors to say the least.

Friday night was bonfire night for them and they would burn anything and everything they could get their hands on and more or less lit up the inside of my house from 200' away with the high flames. They would play loud music and all their friends would sit around and drink until the wee hours of the morning. It was never a problem but they were definitely interesting people.

So I'd like to find out which THT member has the most interesting neighbors and we can all be the judge of who has it bad. Pictures and news paper links would be ideal :)

Re: The worst neighbors?
Mine aren't too bad in comparison to others I've seen. When we moved into our house we moved the placement of the washer dryer into the mud room from it's previous location. This meant digging a new drain for the washer. The neighbor of course was being nosey and asked if everything was ok and what we were doing. Now it being my house I was doing the digging and dad was prepping everything. I was in no mood for talking to her but he was being very nice. Two years later her husband and I started talking (nice guy). The original owner put in ALOT of iris's. I hate them, and so do the wife. Neighbors come home from somewhere and the first thing out of her mouth is "where are the iris's?" I said they were gone, dug up, in the bin. "Those were hybrid iris's, I would have liked to have those." Her husband walked around the truck "And this is my wife Debbie." So I don't talk to her have no desire to but the wife is cordial. The others on the opposite side couldn't be nicer.

Re: The worst neighbors?
My neighbors never talk to me or my wife or my six year old. Don't know why, maybe it has to do with rumor that I started that I did two years for manslaughter as a juvenile. Anyway, nobody asks to borrow my tools.

Re: The worst neighbors?
My neighbor is a moron. He parks his 20 year old boat in the driveway. Also parks his stationwagon and Durango in the driveway. He parks his 20 year old truck in between our houses. He has 2 utility trailors in his back yard. Oh yea his other boat a 35 year old mfg tri-hull is also in the back yard. Put up an ugly plastic white fence. I could go on but it gets worse. 2 dogs a rott and a boxer that get out all the time. 2 obnoxious kids.

My neighbor is a 70yo Portuguese widow. She's convinced that Al Queda is after her, specifically.

Re: The worst neighbors?
My old neighbors in Brooklyn were a trip; my wife often says she is going to write a book. Our first home was an Archie Bunker Special, sharing a wall on one side with one set of neighbors, and sharing a driveway with the other set of neighbors.

Sharing a wall with us was Mrs. Z and her family. She was 70, her husband was 83, and 2 "boys" in their 40's lived at home. One of those boys was extremely obsessed with the garbage, and garbage trucks, and garbage collection, and talking about garbage, and collecting garbage; he was extremey exciteable whenever the topic came up. I once saw him in an elevator at my place of work in Manhattan (he had a mail delivery job for a law firm in the same building), and went out of my way to say hello on the elevator. In the crowded elevator he went into a long and loud discourse on..... garbage! His brother was mentally ill. He would stare out the window and make bird noises and shrieks; he reminded you of that cult movie years ago "Birdie." Other families on the block told us sad stories about how, when those boys were young, Mrs. Z would not allow them outside, summer or winter, and they would stare out the window longingly while the other kids played in the street. We have also heard Mrs Z beat her 83 year old husband through our bedroom wall, while he begged for her to stop hitting him. We banged on the wall, and told her if she didnt stop we'd get her taken away. Also, if my wife wore shorts in the backyard with our newborns, Mrs Z would scream "whore!" out the window.

On my other side, were my other neighbors Julie and Richard and their small little girl. He was a fireman and she stayed at home. He had anger issues, and even had Mrs Z's car stolen and burnt out, when she bothered him. He also shot my landscaper with a BB gun in the head for mowing the lawn at 10AM (he sometimes works late). The landscaper ran to my house shrieking "your crazy neighbor...he a shotta me! he a shotta me!" My wife went over to Richard and, of course, freaked.

I should also tell you about the "Mes..." family down the street....... another time

Daaaaum! Sorry to hear you guys have such luck....

Reminds me a little of one of my sisters (haven't spoken to her in 3 years BTW). She moved about every 2 years, never could find 'good neighbors' she says... She once told me on move in day a couple years ago, the kids across the street were having a party. Music was too loud for her so she called the cops. I asked what happened when she asked them to turn it down.. She didn't ask, just called the cops. Gee, I wonder why she can't get along?

RE: The worst neighbors?
I guess I am lucky, neighbors pretty much keep to themselves. After the hurricane, we saw them a little more as everybody was off work for a few weeks. Nice folks that don't cause trouble. Just another reason I told my wife we would stay in this house a long time.

RE: The worst neighbors?
Here's one for ya.

NICE neighborhood. First couple of days in our new house, my wisdom teeth need pulled. Second morning, get up early and off to the oral surgeon. After the surgury, HEAVILY doped-up, we arrive at the sidewalk from my wifes car. My wife walks around and helps me out of the car and walks me up the driveway into the house. (Probably took 5 minutes--really doped up) To this day I have no reccollection of getting home and in bed. Anyway, fast forward two months later. We were at a dinner party with the neighbors that live next door. I was saying how nice it was to have souch nice neighbors....anyway, out of the blue people were kinda looking around like someone farted or something. Awkward to say the least. Anyway, the next day one of the neighbors approached me and said that they "heard" that I was a drunk! Also, last night at the party my wife felt like other women were being really nosey about us.... Anyway, we found out that our friendly neighbors (next door) saw us come home from the Dentist and leaped to conclusions... We became loners after that....

Re: The worst neighbors?
I been in the same place 30 years. For about 15 of those years I had no nieghbors within 1/4 mile. Talk about quiet, all the privacy in the world. Then in 1992 Mr and Mrs E bought the property and built a home next to us. At first I was really put off, if I had known the property was for sale I would have purchased it my self. The E's planned on building a home but the moved a house trailer onto the lot to set up temporary house keeping. Well it was fact I had nieghbors now so I decided to make the best of it. The E's are an older couple now in there 80s at that time they were, well do the math. I volunteered to help with the heavy hauling and the hard labor. They graciously accepted my help and a solid friendship blossomed. Now they are considered part of the family, they consider us their family. Trust me when I tell you I have no fear that my home will be well looked after when we are away. They adpted my old dog as their own and treated my kids just like grandkids of their own. My children consider them a third set of grandparents.

Funny story. This happened the very first night that the Es spent in their new trailer next door. About 2AM my old catahoula dog who is gone now decided to chase a racoon out from under my carport. Directly across the yard and under the Es brand stinkin new house trailer. Now my old dog went about 75# and in her day she was what Mr E referred to as a go getter. She had a bark that could wake the dead and when on the trail of a beasty she was without pain or caution. Up under the trailer they went with Daphne baying like a hound from hell the **** hissing and snapping like a cobra. From across the yard I could hear garbage cans being turned over, pipes banging, and literally what sounded like a young war starting. My reaction was to grab my cap, along with the first piece of clothing available, throw on a pair of shoes I could walk into and head out their to gather my dog in before the Es called the cops and reported a disturbance. I was running around the trailer yelling at the dog to heel, which she was having no part of, she was continuing to bark growl and snarl at the ****. Several times the **** and Daphne actually tied into each other and the noise level rose even higher. After about 5 minutes of this, I noticed the lights come on in the trailer, my thought was, Oh Heck we're in for it now. A few seconds later the porch light snaps on and Mr E pokes his head out the door. First thing he notices is me standing there wearing my wife's short red satin with lace trim house coat that doesn't quite come down far enough to cover my oversized plaid boxer drawers, with my feet adorned in my unlaced steel toe high top work boots, along with a bright orange baseball cap. Right away I noticed his look of overwhelming suprise, he gazes at me for a few seconds and without pause or comment turns and closes the door. All the while this is going on the dog is still baying the **** still hissing and they are running rough shod under that trailer hitting the plumbing works and support structure. Next morning I started to go over to apologize, but had second thoughts, mostly I was embarrassed. To this day he has never mentioned that night to me, anyway.

Talk about good neighbors.

Re: The worst neighbors?
My neighbors love me....We butcher our deer in the trees behind my home. My back yard is joined by 3 other homes....I leave the deer hanging for, say a day or two. Then the cutting begins.

Re: The worst neighbors?
my inlaws have some terrible neighbors. they used to be great friends. my father inlaw build them a shed, and did a bunch of handyman work around their house for no charge.

the problems began, when the neighbors cat was killed by my inlaws rottweiler. the gate to my inlaws backyard was left open, the dog ran into the front yard, the cat happened to be in my inlwas front yard, and the dog proceeded to break the cats neck. The cat was about 20 years old. my father in law felt terrible and helped to bury the cat.

the next day they found out that the neighbor was suing them, and wanted the dog destroyed. after all the things my father inlaw did for her, she decides she wants to profit off of this, and make him suffer? long story short, the court ruled that the dog must be kept in a kennel in the backyard, wear a muzzle if being walked, and my father in law had to put up a taller fence in one section of the yard.

My 3 year old plays with this dog and rides him around like a horse, he is a gentle giant. Who would ever imagine that he would attack a cat. Dogs chase cats, cats chase mice...didnt we learn this on saturday mornings watching Tom n Jerry?

Anyways, since the dog had not been destroyed, the neighbor has gotten worse. Her son has tried to intimidate my mother in law. He tried to attack her in her car with a leaf blower (her word against his) and the very same day, accused her of trying to swerve to hit him with the car. Funny that he has to mess with the women, but he is too much of a coward to say anything to my father in law, or myself.

Thats the story so far, but i can only see this situation getting worse. I'm glad that i have nice neighbors at least.
