Default anyone with experience in Ironplanet or govplanet military surplus?

I'm in the search for a 2 seat UTV and I just remember that those 2 sites had some pretty impressive auctions prices some time ago...
I was wondering if anyone of you guys has any experience with it and could share their experience, do's, dont's, etc....
How did it go? good? bad? any surprises?

I bought a few golf carts from iron planet several years ago all went good and was really good deal

I used to hunt with the guy who started it, we had a mutual friend, but he sold it for a ton of money. I mean holy crap I canít believe how it took off as a company and how much it was sold for.

Iím not sure how it runs now but assume itís still good

I have purchased from iron planet and govdeals.

my most recent purchase was from govdeals which was a four-wheel-drive excursion. Decent condition with 187,000 miles. I got it for $2500

The problem with some of these auctions is people will bid on it thinking itís ďmilitary gradeď and drive the price up like crazy

I have been dreaming of a HMMV from Govplanet and they are realistic now that prices have come down.

I don't think there has been any true "surplus" since the 60s. We tend to leave our stuff in the country we "assist" when we leave since the 70s. The locals are supposed to continue the war after we get tired of it. The stuff they sell is what they are tired of fixing for the most part. It would be interesting to me if you could see the maintenance log but that is not happening.

Most of those machines have been rose hard and put up wet. Wore slap out. Most are x rental machines and get the crap beat out of em. But to answer original question yes Iíve purchased and sold many items on gov planet and iron planet. The guarantee has lol holes and deductibles. All in all itís pretty good but not a true no holds barred guarantee. It funny iron plant won a huge lawsuit against Ritchie broís and the Ritchie broís bought them for a crazy amount of money!

Crazy long and slow process. I dad has bought several military trucks and trailers for various stuff and you have to jump through hoops to get your stuff. Not a quick process!

Funny you mention that... I just found RB and I've been looking to their items.
Their stuff seems to be on WAY MUCH better shape and condition then Iron Planet.
It almost looks like they auction the good stuff in RB and leave the scrap for Iron Planet.

I'm looking forward to bid in Ritchie Bros... They have an auction in Orlando, so I could save on freight by picking it up.
hopefully not a RPIA to get the equipment

you have to be careful with RB because they do a lot of krylon "rebuilds"

in fact I believe another division of RB is specifically a krylon "rebuilder".....charge the seller for the work and then get more for it at auction that results in a larger income from the auction for RB...seller is happy RB is happy buyer beware

to be clear there is a lot of good stuff at RB and I would say overall they are reputable, but they sell a lot of stuff with fresh paint

I’ve bought/sold a bunch from both over the years. You can tell what’s junk for the most part and what is nothing but a headache. RB does a lot of paint jobs while IP tells you to leave it like it is so the buyer has more confidence that you’re not hiding something. That was before RB bought them out.

In that case, I may have to try to plan a trip and bid on-site rather than online.... I will call tomorrow to see if they allow you to see the item before bidding and if they would let me to take it with me if paying with cash so I do not have to go back again.
