I loved my Sirius radio for the 9 months it worked. Then, in September my power cable went on the blink and it wouldn't power up the unit.

Radio Shack told me they can't be bought for replacement I'd have to contact Sirius directly. I called Sirius, was told it was under warranty and would be replaced for free, but it was on back order, we'll be in touch they said.

One month later, I get an email and an address to send the broken power cable to first before they would send me a new one. So, away it goes, USPS Priority Mail. Six weeks later I call to see what's going one. They tell me, what power cable, we never got it.... We'll research it and be in touch.

A month later I call again to see what's going on. I'm told now they don't know why the cable never arrived. I ask why can't you just place an order for a new power cable and have it mailed out to me. Well, the cables are now on backorder and we would have to replace the entire unit.

Forget it!!!!! transfer me to the people who cancel subscriptions, please.

I would strongly advise anyone considering Sirius this Christmas to reconsider. Their customer service is the worst I have seen in a long long time.

IMHO, they should have mailed a new power cable out the day I told them mine was broken, period end of story. Or at very least, make it available at Radio Shack so I can pay $12.95 and just get a new one!

Bennett Trim Tabs spoiled me, they should go into the business of treating what customer service should be!

Re: Sirius
From what I have heard on CNBC,neither company is doing all that great.I'm sort of a tech guy, both of my cars are prewired and ready to go for satelite radio, but I don't see the point.I wonder if this sat radio will last.

Re: Sirius
Ant1 -- The thing that's nice about it is you can run offshore and never have to touch the stereo. No need for CDs, messing with an IPOD, etc. Just let the XM play.

I ended up installing it in the Suburban as well. I like to listen to talk radio and there's nothing more frustrating than getting into a show while on a road trip only to loose the signal, not a problem with tXM.

Re: Sirius
I loved the product, satellite radio is truly the best, it's hard to listen to regular radio now, but I am so deeply disappointed with Sirius that I had to cancel on principal. Maybe I 'll try XM, just wondered if others had a similar experience as mine.

I have had my Sirius for over a year now! Works great, I use it in 2 trucks and at home with 3 docking stations.

Re: Sirius
I love my sirius. I do have to wiggle the power cord sometimes, but it's not the cord it's the unit, I dread having to send it back at some point. Probably just buy another when it finally craps out as I've also heard that the cust. serv. sucks. Programming is great though.

Re: Sirius
there's talk of a merger. I have both. (XM wifes car) (sirius on boat) as for music they are both great, I've never had any real service issues with either, but trying to contact sirius via the internet is absolutely impossible, they might as well not have an email address for support.

Re: Sirius
The FCC would never allow Sirius & XM to merge. You would end up paying $100 per month fpr service. The stock has always been a christmas gift stock. It is plain & simple a $3 or $4 stock. Stern always shows up this time of the year promoting something or other.

Seaveyor - 12/17/2006 8:28 PMThe FCC would never allow Sirius & XM to merge.
How would the FCC "never allow" such a merger? just curious.

Satellite radio rivals Sirius (SIRI) and XM (XMSR) have been cozying up to each other, The Post has learned.

While talks have not advanced far, executives from both sides have been meeting lately to discuss the possibility of a merger, according to several sources close to the matter.

Sources say the executives have not yet discussed price. They have, however, been weighing any potential antitrust concerns that would arise from a deal, which would create a monopoly in the nascent satellite radio business.

The two companies have talked in the past about merging, but the discussions never got to an advanced stage. But in the wake of Sirius' hiring of former Viacom President Mel Karmazin (search) in November, the issue has gained renewed urgency, sources said.

"Mel is a roll-up guy, a deal guy," said one source close to Karmazin.

While many people in the media industry say it's inevitable the two companies will eventually merge, sources say a deal could be at least a year away.

A spokesman for Sirius said, "as a company we do not comment on rumor or speculation." An XM spokesman did not return a call seeking comment.

The satellite radio industry is currently a Federal Communications Commission (search)-licensed duopoly, and both XM and Sirius are hoping they can convince the FCC to redefine the market to include all content over wireless broadband services.

As mobile technology in the United States advances, XM and Sirius are hoping the FCC will consider satellite radio as part of the broader industry of delivering music and other content through mobile devices, such as cellphones, say sources.

A merger between XM and Sirius ó neither of which is yet profitable ó would alleviate a price war for premium content and allow the two companies to save significant amounts of money on marketing costs.

Merrill Lynch analyst Laraine Mancini said in a conference call earlier this week that one of the chief risks of investing in the companies' stock is a potential price war and "irrational bidding" for content.

Last year, Sirius announced a blockbuster $500 million deal to bring Howard Stern (search) from traditional radio to satellite radio beginning in 2006. While some hailed the deal as a milestone for the fledgling sat radio industry, some on Wall Street said the company overpaid.

Re: Sirius
I got the Sirius unit for free when I installed a new Clarion system in my boat. So I said why not and signed up. The unit worked great offshore and running around. At about 7 months it would not connect, called Sirius and they basically said they don't make the boxes so there is nothing they could do. So I cancelled the subscription and they didn't seem to care.

A couple days later I called Clarion and to make a long story short they are fixing it but itís going to cost me money. Don't you hate having to repair things that you got for free?

But yes I liked it enough to get it fixed.

Re: Sirius
Be honest with you sirius doesnt make the unit radio shack does when you buy from radio shack ... Radio shack sucks... I have the same issue... radio issues and they stopped making the unit so they want me to buy another unit... and they only made the unit for a while...

Re: Sirius
I got sirius with my Dish Network. I kinda thought it was silly because I wasn't going to sit in front of the tv and listen to the radio. However, I hooked up my Denon reciever to it and ran outdoors speakers to my back patio. I know listen to it in the backyard all summer long.

Re: Sirius
My only beef with Sirius is the constant spam I get from them. Ive been in contact with them via email and over the phone multiple times about it and it doesn't stop. I may drop them. So do yourself a favor and don't give them your email address.
