Default Bugs in dog food?

Going for most obscure thread of the year award. While feeding the dogs this morning I noticed something different. Lots of dust and bloated pieces. Can't find anything moving in the food. In the pic you'll see a few on the right that have been bloated, chewed. No mice were found and can't get in the storage. Brand is Beneful. Weird huh?

There are always some organisms in all that stuff - keep a bag of flour for a year and it will be full of visible worms. And flour is regulated by the FDA as to how many eggs are allowable.... I imagine the dog food is similiar.

So is that pic exactly the way you found it Birdy? Was it like that the last time the storage bin was entered? What sort of time frame are we talking about since the last time the storage bin was entered? Are you sure you don't have a sleep walking hunger problem?

More than likely Boll Weevils...

I would toss the remaining food in the garbage, get a fresh bag and monitor it from there. Don't get too freaked out though, remember this is an animal that licks it's own ass..

I saved what I could. I cleaned the whole container. I had moved the container around to show certain pieces. I woke with with dog food breath and crapped crayon pieces this morning too. Maybe it was me last night?

Boll Weevil, Bark Beetle, all the same..

Seriously...

"A bark beetle is one of approximately 220 genera with 6,000 species of beetles in the subfamily Scolytinae in the weevil family Curculionidae (traditionally the bark beetles were placed in their own family Scolytidae)."

On the farm we would have problems with weevils if we didn't clean feeders out good. I would just be sure to totally empty the food out of that container on a regular basis instead of adding to it all the time.

Had the same thing happen with Beneful. You'll end up with worms in it. Throw it out!
Our Chinese Hairy Bellied Pig (aka Chow) didn't like it either.
Went back To Kibbles & Chunks, no problem.

You ought to be ashamed that you are feeding the dog Beneful. What self respecting dog would choose to eat veggies.

I have seen three dogs who was fed that stuff pick out the meat pieces and leave the veggies.
