How to Dye Sunbrella?

My canvass is in great shape but is this really ugly 90s green. I want to dye it black. I have tried the Duplicolor paint which I have had good luck with on other things and the RIT synthetic dye to no luck. Is there any way to change the color short of having a new top made?

You can't dye sunbrella fabric. It is really more like a "plastic" than a "fabric". When you see the fabric in different colors, the colors are done by conventional dying processes, but instead are manufactured in the various colors as individual fibers/threads, and then woven into the fabric. This is why you can use bleach to clean it for example, there are no dyes to remove, but for the same reasons, the fibers are not porous and will not absorb or bind to dyes.

Black is a bad color for most sunbrella items, it will get very hot, like an oven, I have dark blue and I hate it, lighter color is better in the sun

Sunbrella is manufactured from acrylic fiber which is extruded with automotive grade pigments which have been incorporated into the polymer.
