Default Computer Circuit Board

For the techinical guys in the crowd. My laptop at home (compaq presario) went dead and when plugged in the power light flashes on and off and an alarm goes off. When I called Tech Support, they said the circuit board was shorted out and that I needed to take it to a service center which I am going to do next week. I am curious if that is the case how much do you guys think it will cost?

Thanks.

Well that would be a mother board by the sounds of it.......so whatever it costs for a mother board and installation.

Thanks, I am just trying to decide if I should just throw it in the trash can and buy a new one, or if it would be under 100 or so dollars it might be worth fixing.

I don;t know much about computers, but my HP pavilion laptop had the video card go bad. I called hp and for a flat rate of $249 the would fix anything it needed, so a week later I get my computer back with a new motherboard, video card and new hardrive, basically a new computer. I think HP and comaq are the same company so maybe you can do the same.

Okay thanks. That is not too bad. Did you lose all your saved data and files? I have (maybe had?) thousands of songs mine that I really don't want to lose.

Nah the power supply of the mother board should effect the stored information you have on your hard drive. But you know, it wouldn't hurt to back up those songs on disk, sh!t can happen.
