how many CD's do you own?...start by transferring them..that's free....shuffles are cute but once you are an ipod person, the 4G nano is the least you should buy.....

Oh Glen, if I bougth an IPOD, it would be the big momma jomma with 60 or 80 GB.

I have a good amount of MP3's, but I would want to start getting new songs too. Then there's the whole modifying my existing to make it work. I already have XM and love it too.

C'mon, I am trying to talk myself outta this and you aren't helping one bit!

You would hope so for as much as Apple paid for that function. That is part of that recent mutli-$100’s-millions Apple is paying/paid to Creative Labs for a patent violation.

I thought I would copy our CDs to HDDs for easy storage, use, and transfer to an MP3 player as needed. Before I knew what had happened I whipped right thru 300GB of disc space and ran out of room. Scrapped the whole idea, need to rethink whatever it is that makes me think I needed a 1-to-1 bit transfer of my digital music collection. Maybe compression isn’t such a bad idea after all.

But just knowing it could sound better …

How you save your music (i.e sampling rates, etc) will determine how many songs you can store in 1gb of space. Obviously, the best quality of sound, a 1-to-1 transfer, is going to take up a lot of disc space...potentially up to .7gb per CD.

Eyeball, sounds like you didn't RIP them - i.e. change them into an MP3 format, which is significantly smaller than a CD format.

I'll bet you did go through 300 GB in a hurry! What, maybe 150 CD's or so?

Anyone here discover Anapod yet????????? It is a great alternative to i-tunes if you like the "Windows Explore" method of data transfer.
