WIth that they had a decent sized clean room which is necessary to make the first 3/4th of what I wrote. I'm sure that after working out with Ventec the size of machines and assembly flow to make a vent, they came up with what they could do in that clean room. That number was a lot less than Trump said he wanted to do, so with his immense knowlege of manufacturing medical equipment and autos he said that GM should use the Lordstown plant which GM doesn't own, and that doesn't have a clean room. The press picks up bits and pieces of the whole story, then those with bias for and against GM will shout their side of the story. The larger story of the real issues involved never gets printed. Then the country looks to the next squirrel/story that the press puts out which is biased to whichever side their viewers like.

Did I miss anything?
Nope

A ventilator built to GM quality standards? Probably wont even light up at initial plug in, with their typical response of "operating as intended ".

GM's big problem is they honestly think they are better than everyone.

I understand your bias as you have said what has caused. it.

But I won't agree with your second comment. I live and worked around 100s of them, and would say the percentage of folks that act like you state is no different that the general population.

Good points in this thread though I find this disturbing ...

I have worked with EVERY auto mfg in the world and without a doubt, GM absolutely has the attitude they are better than all. They think they know all, while other oems are much more willing to work as a team to help solve problems.

My experience with the German companies says the opposite. The Japanese bend over backwards and say yes to everything, but that doesn't mean yes.

The people working at GM use to work at Ford, or GE Aviation, or Toyota, at this point many move around throughout their careers. I don't think it's fair to generalize about how things are now. What you say it more true going back a decade, or two or three...

Hopefully all that they make will have some sort of GM sticker on them so it will be easier for people who need them for themselves or for their families can decline to use them.

Like I have said in the past, i completely stopped working with GM in the last 2-3 yrs. However, as you mentioned about ppl moving around to/from, yes I totally agree. This is true when a Ford guy goes to GM that they may be more perceptive to their old ford ways but after time the higher ups at GM will change his ways to be more inline with GM corporate business operations. I will never give GM cent of my money for one of their POS products, nor will I ever do work for them. They are a horrible company plain and simple. I mean the THT data clearly shows how many on this forum feel the same about GM.

Makes more sense to me to take the laid off workers from the closed auto plants and send them to the ventilator companies and run those places 24/7. Three shifts a day, every day. I know-some training involved, etc but still faster and better quality then trying to start an assembly line from scratch.

I believe Warren Buffett disagrees.

To begin the discussion, Exactly what does a Ventilator look like?

You better bet the Trial Lawyers Cartel is not giving any Hall Passes for these deals.

If I had the choice between a Ford or GM ventilator....

I would choose a bicycle pump.

50k surgical masks per day withing 2 weeks. Not horrible, I think Ford is doing surgical masks as well.
