Well. The earth is not flat at that particular impact site. More concave I would think.

he should have kept his hand off of the parachute lever while taking off.
should have had a back up plan for a parachute that malfunctioned

I watched something about him last year and someone joked about wrapping him up with bubble wrap. That might have not been a bad idea Lol
