Default Captains not understanding "No Wake Zone"

First, As I was contemplating posting this, In my head I am thinking that I have become the old man "GET OFF MY GRASS".... but decided to ask anyhow.

I live along a tidal river in an area that has alot of tourists and snowbirds. In the summer this is rarely and issue, and even in the 7 years here summer was an issue that was annoying but not damaging. but lately, Rather than 1 in 10 throwing huge wake, it has been 1 in 10 actually running without a wake. I dont think the captains have any real experience and dont realize that a fast but not on plane speed throws a larger wave than if they were on plane.

It is so bad that my son and I had to bring in 3 pickup loads of sand and replace half of the rip rap on my bank. Neighbors are having the same issue. (we are not allowed sea walls unless grandfathered in) Between myself and who I have talked to, We are talking about 30k to 40K in repairs between all of us (I probably have the least cost because I had free labor).

Spit balling Ideas last night with one of my neighbors, we came up with the idea of paintball markers and bullhorns. Now that the old fashions have worn off, What kind of trouble could we get in if we happened to "mark" offenders? Both of us are pretty good shots. Its not like I would be marking the captain or occupants. just the hull....

Watch out for return fire. Not all will be carrying paint ball guns. Test out your theory on the Coasties or LEO's before you try the drunk rednecks. Please set up a remote camera and share.

Define the drunk red necks, Us or the boaters?

I bought a house in the hood in a gentrification part of town. I don’t complain about the hookers, my truck being stolen, having to lock my gate, have an alarm on everything, cameras everywhere, constant street trash blowing on my lawn. I knew when I bought the place that would be the deal and I accepted it.

I am always lost as to why water front property owners don’t accept what they bought which is mainly anchored boats and wakes.

Set up a couple trail cameras with good lenses and let them take photos of the boats running above no wake speed. If the photos are good enough to read the hull numbers, turn copies of the photos over to law enforcement and keep your own copies as evidence for your lawsuits.

Don't plan on being very popular.

Why not contact the local marine police and ask for increased patrols of the area?

its kinda like when you buy A house on a main road and then complain that everyone is driving over the speed limit.

Is it a state posted no wake zone or do you just not like the wakes?

I respectfully disagree. This river is and has been a no wake zone and Manatee zone since before I was here. If I was on a bay or I was Not 2 miles up a no wake zone, I would agree. If you bought on a quiet cul de sac and someone was drag racing up and down, I dont think you would be happy either.

It is a Manatee zone.

If it was not regulated, I would repair my wall completely differently.

Honelstly I would never do that. I am just frustraded.

To bone-a-fide, We have called but unfortunately Much worse drama around Ft Meyers Beach takes precedence.

Just yesterday, It appears that a Kyaker shot a person and killed the driver of a boat. Leo is defiantly needed there more than here.

I thought manatee zones are speed restricted, but not necessarily no wake?

My personal opinion, Owners docks and shore protection should be built to withstand the prevailing traffic patterns that exist, not expect traffic patterns to adjust to protect their property. Also, operating in an a-hole manner (plowing wakes, wake boats near docks, etc.) should be condemned in all cases.

I'm not sure the boats would understand that you were shooting at them because they were going to fast. Don't see how this slows anybody down. I think there are two possible responses (1) They speed up to get away - which you don't want or (2) They U-Turn to find you and you try to defend yourself with a paint ball gun.

When you point the paint ball gun at them make sure to yell "Get Off My River!"

What's the chance of taking all the info to the powers that make the decision on sea walls? Can that option be allowed with enough homeowners?
