Default What bird of prey is this?

Picture taken yesterday. Suburban DC area, heavily wooded backyard that backs up to a nature preserve. Will try to get higher quality photos next time.

Bird was probably a little over a foot tall.




last blurry shot shows color of the underside of the wings as it took off....

I thought Coopers Hawk as well based on some pictures we found online. My sis now has the Nikon out and at the ready to ensure this bird never shows up again

Kind of blurry,may be a pterodactyl or some kind of hawk.

Being valentines day, I expected to see the most dangerous predator on the bridge,,,the ruby breasted mattress thrasher.

It's not a Peregrine, they do not have rust colored breasts. It's whitish with specs of black.

Looks like this guy...He sits on my truck a lot and let's me get to within 6 feet of him... Red Shouldered hawk, I think..
