Default Recommendation for a quality sipping Rum

Weíve got the bourbon thread, and I donít want to derail that one. Can someone recommend a very good quality dark rum for drinking neat? Iíve read that some rums have a bourbon-like quality with some of the flavors present. Suggest away.....

I have loved everything from Four Square distillers that I have had. Distilled in Barbados....some stuff I obviously like better than others but never had anything bad. Really a good quality product IMHO.

Unfortunately its getting harder to find, but its fantastic sugar whiskey.

If you cant find....PM me

I have a bottle or Paraiso by Bacardi, it was a gift. At $300 it should be pretty good.

La Pinta vanilla rum in St Barths is my go to for sipping.

For around 30 bucks a bottle my favorite is Pompano and the real McCoy is second.

Kirk and Sweeney 23 is outstanding, I know I’ll take a beating but for the money Captain Morgan’s Private Stock has to be considered.

There are a lot of great rums but any sipping rum conversation should include Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva.

I will also add, if I may, I find rum a much better value than bourbon. The sub $50 class rums mentioned here are world class, itís tough to do that with bourbon in that price range

Thanks, Iíll start to keep my eyes out for some of the ones mentioned. Which ones are less sweet than others? I donít care for anything really sweet (including tea, chocolate, etc).

I've never heard of someone sipping Rum, but if you're going sip, sip MT Gay. Its shoots down your throat.
