Default Effectively blocking robo/spam calls?

Anyone using something to block robo calls that is effective? I have an app that identifies some of them but lately it hasn't worked as well. My phone is also my business phone and literally 2/3 of my calls are robo/spam. Thinking of trying one that requires the caller to verbally identify themselves.

I just don't answer my phone.
Sad state of affairs that cell companies will not take action to protect their customers.

What's crazy is that it must work. They must get enough people to actually buy something to justify the effort/expense yet everyone complains about it.

My business phone was repeatedly targeted by the "map service for google" spammers. Think up to 5 calls per day for months. Each time they would call it shows up as being from a different number. I tried hanging up on them but that didn't work. I tried asking to be taken off their call list but that didn't work. Being put on the national "do not call" list did not work. Cursing them out didn't work. Asking them the name of the company they worked for just made them hang up - but then they would call back. I finally found the solution. When they call, I answer and say "please hold." Next step is to push the hold button on my phone and totally forget about them. After about 3 calls with that treatment they stopped calling. Evidently they don't like it when someone wastes their time . . ..

There are many 3rd party spam control apps you can put on your phone, nomorobo is one of the more popular ones.
BUT...did you know Google released an update for their Android phones that now has this built into it? Their Pixel phones were first to have it, not sure on other models and other carriers. You can tell by looking in the phone app, hit those settings dots....in the menu, Caller ID & Spam, manage your settings there. Works GREAT. I've had the same cell phone number for over 20 years, my number is all over the place, email signatures, etc..plus I'm an IT guy. Used to get quite a few spam calls. Now...the last time I've had a spam call, not this year, probably last one was....probably before Christmas, maybe even before Thanksgiving.

Not to be cynical, but I wonder how much of these robo calls are sponsored by the makers of products like nomorobo and robo killer, and or the cell phone companies themselves. I had a great app, that cost $15 one time fee. It worked 100% of the time, if you were not in my contacts, or my allowed list it filtered the call. It was my choice to send those calls to voicemail, or just get rid of them. With the last Verizon/Android update it stopped working. The company acknowledge, that the app would no longer work because of changes to the OS. Verizon has a free Call Filter, that stops about 5% of the calls, if you want a better filter it is a per month cost. It should be very easy and free to set your phone, to send all calls not in your contact list to Voicemail.

Rant Over

I get lots of scam calls from a group saying they are my phone/internet provider and it's going to be disconnected because I have been hacked, and I need to fix my computer, I get these calls at least 3-10 times a day, at first I just played along, telling them I had my computer on and was following their instructions, but after a hundred or so times, that got a pain, then I simply told them I know it's a scam, sometimes they swear at me, sometimes they just say they will call later, a few times I have told them the call is being traced by the federal police, they just laugh and tell me to f#@+ off, tried different things, called my genuine provider, and they just say "live with it" they can't stop it.

Many years ago I had a window company call me constantly. Same guy from a company out of Tampa. I cant remember his name now but lets call him Joe. He had a really distinctive voice. This was back in the day when calls were on your plan, nothing unlimited. After several years of this telling them to take me off their list and even speaking with the owner, I played along. They sent a sales rep out and when he pulled up I greeted him in the driveway and told him to drive back to the office and slap the shit out of Joe for wasting both our time. The guy was PISSED!
Never heard from them again.

Android pixel has the feature where it screens calls for you.

The phone answers the call for you and ask the person calling what their name is and why are they calling. You can see the callers response in a text format in real time and can decide whether to answer or not. It has significantly reduced the number of calls I have gotten . It works great.

We still have a landline, unit died got another one. Got funny and recorded message that went the usual: "you have reached 1 2 etc.
Wife started first word, me second, her next... Most calls after that started hanging up after the message ran 3/4 way thru.
Don't know if the matrix or whatever for the robo calls didn't like the pauses in the message but it knocked out 90% of the spam calls, still gets 100% of legit calls.
