Default Google Voice

Anyone here use/have a Google Voice number and if so, what are the benefits of this service?

I switched my home land line over a couple years back. It's not used much, but some places still had that for family/kids stuff.

Main benefit is it's free. I have it on do not disturb so my cell never rights but people can leave a voice mail, which it transcribes and emails to me.

I have a google voice. My only beef with it is that it randomly shows up as a different number when I use it. I don't know how, but I can see every text from my Verizon phone on my computer in my Google Voice account....and voice mails are converted to texts I can see in my google voice. And I can send texts from my computer using Google Voice.

I switched our landline three years ago. I installed an Obi 200 to connect Google voice to our existing house phones. Make and receive calls just like before except it is free.

Have one that stays turned off most of the time for sell crap on Craigslist, etc.

also used it in the past when I had a company phone. You can pay a one time $20-$25 (ballpark) fee to port your number to google voice, then log in from any smart phone (work phone in my case) and receive calls/texts there. I’ve had my same personal number since the 90’s, and it’s the number all my friends have for me. Saves having a phone bill and also from dragging around 2 phones. When using it that way basically you have the ability to call/text from 2 different numbers on the same phone.

I've since changed companies and moved my personal # to the company account, but it’s a situation where I can take it with me with no issue if I leave.

I own a software company and want people to be able to reach me wherever I am since I travel and don't have an actual office. We post the Google Voice number on our website and send it to my cell phone. That way my cell number is not posted on the internet. If the spam calls become too much, I will simply get another Google Voice number and change the website.
