Another police incident...?

Here is a police incident that is unfolding as we speak. I am trying to remain objective on this situation. This began last night around 8-8:30. Local news was on scene and everyone was being tight lipped. They were promised an update/briefing for 11:00 news and it turned out to be a pat "no comment, it is an ongoing investigation" type response, at midnight it was announced that an officer was involved in a shooting after a high speed chase with a suspect. Part of the town was literally closed down, helicopter was flying overhead, etc. A local man was interviewed and claimed he was almost run down at an intersection. This AM, all we really know is that 2 officers were involved in some type of "incident" involving a high speed chase which ended in gunfire, a lot of screaming, and the State police, VDOT was called to secure the area and re-route traffic and a suspect is in custody. This should be interesting as it appears everyone involved is still alive and we will hear both sides of the story.

This is one reason that social media can be so problematic. Everyone expects instant updates and answers to situations that involve lot's of moving parts and when the answers are not 'social-media fast' there has to be something being hidden. When I was involved in local school politics there were several 'incidents' that required the police to show up at a school for one reason or another. Social media lit up and the phone calls were immediate and abundant demanding answers and information. Frustrating.

I think you are absolutely correct. Social media and politics sometimes demands answers or "justice" or an arrest before a full and equitable investigation can be carried out.

I stated I am trying to be objective, and that is what I am doing. Here is the latest update. https://www.wsls.com/news/local/2020...dnesday-night/

There is an awful lot of blanks that still need to be filled in. How do we get from a routine traffic violation stop to a shootout in a residential neighborhood?

A policeman got shot by a subject with a gun, according to your article. Without knowing any more I would say that is probably how it went from a traffic stop to a shootout.

Why are some of you waiting for the details? We all know how this is going to turn out. Someome speculate so we can get this party started.

The suspect had some run-ins with the law but had turned his life around. He was working full time, going to college, and raising his daughter as a single parent. He was a double major - chemical engineering and divinity studies. Although he was making the grade in his engineering classes, he was considering dropping them to devote all his spare time to the Lord. His fledgling prison outreach program was seeking funding from multiple sources. Nothing solid has come through just yet but his after school care program is going well. He likes ponies and rainbows and long walks on the beach. This egregious chase and shootout by the police on the suspect is just further proof that we live in a police state. No excuses, shoot at police, you will probably get shot. No sympathy,no tears shed- you get what you bring on yourself.

You forgot the obligatory quote from Mama that "He was a good boy."

No, I'm just a spokesman. I'm sick and tired of seeing that damn Gloria Alred grabbing all the headlines. I need my 15 minutes of fame.

Saving that for the press conference. I'll be the one behind Mama with the dour look on my face and the briefcase for of legal filings. After this is over, I'll be changing my screen name here to Ca$h Money.

So who you gonna call Big Guy when you need help?

MikeMadBch 01-02-2020 06:46 PM

As Polk County (Florida) Sheriff, Grady Judd, has said; "If you shoot at one of our deputies we will shoot you back...a lot."
