But... carry on.

“ Hey! I got 60 rounds in that dude........I hope she’s down”. Wow! that’s some fine police work.

He'll get off.......the grand jury is just to appease the public.

John the officer was freaked out and cranked up from being shot at and in his mind if she can shoot at me then she can shoot at anyone....she needs to be stopped at all costs.
With the lady driver diving at city limit sppeds only told the cop she was deranged and capible of anything.

I agree, based on facts in the article, seems like the Lt. was trying to execute her not just to stop the threat..

Person has a gun. Cop tells them repeatedly to "put it down". Person says, "you first"... "you ain't takin me to jail bubba"... "get back in your car and drive on down the road", (translation - F' off). Person fires gun, (shots fired). Person takes off in pickup with police in pursuit.

Cop tried to do the decent thing and talk her down, but she wanted no part of it. "You ain't gonna tell me what to do". Should have shot her in the face while she was parked.

That person deserves to be put down. I don't care if it's 5 bullets, or 500. The way I see it, it's not, "wow, cop fired 60 rounds"!... it took 60 rounds to stop the threat.

PS That "person" = typical low life animal.

Would it make anyone happier if the officer had only shot her twice?

The woman continually denied law orders, was argumentative, TOLD the cop she was going to shoot him and then fired shots at him! WTF ELSE DID SHE EXPECT???

Excessive? Uhhhh I guess so but what's an "acceptable number of rounds" as dictated by folks watching the vid now AFTER the situation?

Nobody else hurt or injured from the rounds fired by the officer? Then what's the problem?

Murder charges? LUDICROUS, I saw an officer terminate a threat, didn't harm anyone else and he was concerned first and foremost for he and his fellow officers safety. Do officers get adrenaline dumps and do things "possibly excessive" at times like a felony pursuit with gunfire? Yeah but it's THEIR LIVES on the line out there in the dark streets.

The officer should be given a medal but obviously this was a political outcome from a liberal bureaucracy concerned more with PR and scoring points than actually maintaining law and order in the streets. Damn shame!

Morally I am troubled by that. Legally, I think the officer is in trouble as well, but it could get interesting. Most use of force policies allow for the use of deadly force against a fleeing person when the person has committed a crime involving the use or threatened use of deadly force, is armed or otherwise presents a threat to others and when the officer's use of deadly force doesn't unduly endanger others. If the officer was legally justified in using deadly force, then how does it become murder? If the first shot/shots killed her, then from a legal standpoint how were the extras murder? Will they be able to prove that the officer knew the threat had been stopped prior to the last round he fired?

How does the police car video get to the media? I know it happens a lot, (tons of car/body videos out there) but who's responsible for giving it to the media in the first place?
In this case, if there was no video, there'd probably be no story. Just another day at work for the police..

Seems like a bit of an overkill by the LEO, but hey, I wasn't there.

"She had driven off from a traffic stop after firing a couple of shots."

And she was subsequently killed by law enforcement.

So what's the problem?

You can’t have your cake and eat it too. In the recent UPS shooting, the cops let the threat continue until it got to an EXTREMELY populated area and then had a massive shootout. I felt that was an outright execution of the UPS driver. Here, the police ended the situation with no “collateral” damage. IMHO I don’t care how many shots were fired. They stopped the threat without innocent lives being taken, and that’s what mattered most.

I agree with much of what you said BUT if the suspect is not moving or making ANY kind of movement or not attempting to get away , you cant justify to just keep firing....only enough force can be used to stop the threat, more than that and it is an execution...

I DONT KNOW IF that happened in this case or not but from the article and charges it sounds like it may have..

shoot at the cops and you deserve everything you get. 5 shots or 500 you can’t be dead enough to satisfy me in that situation. Wish he’d taken the billy club to her stupid bloody face after he emptied all his ammo into her. F her and good for him. Just so sick of people taking shots at cops with impunity and everyone gets all shocked and appalled at their response. Woulda shoulda coulda is really easy to say when your NOT the one getting shot at. This following perfect procedure purity test for the police has got to stop. There are situations where latitude needs to be granted.
