When I was growing up ...a church was the last place where anyone would be in harms way.

I'm glad those in attendance were armed and could shoot back. Let that happen a few more times and you'll stop hearing about church shootings.

My wife and I were traveling through Colorado and arranged to meet one of her old friends while we were passing through. The friend and her husband were volunteering at a youth conference at their church, so we met them there. When we walked up, we were greeted by several people before we ever got within 100 feet of the door. Turned out that they were security. The friend's husband was part of the security and every time a young person walked up, they radioed it in.

It is a shame that security is needed at churches, but it is a sign of our times.

I'm glad that the church in the story had people prepared to act. It is just sad that the bad guy managed to hurt anyone else.

Many churches have armed security details in the congregation. Our church does and all LEOs are encouraged to carry at the aervice.

We recently went to a friends daughters bat mitzvah. First time at a temple. They had an open carry well dressed man at the front door. The entrance glass looked s little beefier than normal as well. Unfortunately in today’s world you can never be too careful.

ours does the same.

local sheriff even encourages on duty guys to attend service with their family as long as they keep an ear piece in and can quickly leave if necessary. Off duty guys are allowed to drive their patrol vehicle to services as well. Good, inexpensive policy IMO.

Luke 11:21 “When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own mansion, his property is safe.”

Our church now has locked doors, remote entry, video, alarms and security. You really don't see it unless you really are looking for it.

Not that we have had any problems, but these days, just good practice. Hope we never need it.

Terrible tragedy in Texas.

I expect ours is not the only or even the first country with armed security in places of worship. I know the practice has existed in our community for decades, in certain churches.

Obviously, you were never an altar boy.

Sad, but he may have saved many lives. I hope I would have the resolve to offer myself to save all those lives.

I think there are more armed people in our congregation than not. Anyone trying this stuff there is definitely going to meet Jesus.

It will be on a UK news source first if it doesn’t fit the profile that US news sources want it to. I had to look at The Daily Mail site to see who the guy was that attacked the Hanukah service in New York.

Well this shouldn't surprise many:
Virginia Law
If any person carry any gun, pistol, bowie knife, dagger or other dangerous weapon, without good and sufficient reason, to a place of worship while a meeting for religious purposes is being held at such place he shall be guilty of a Class 4 misdemeanor.
without good and sufficient reason
How would you know this until it was to late.

Makes me think of a law in Michigan that forbids carrying a pocket knife with blade length of or longer than 3" with the intent to harm a human being. No exception in the written law for self-defense.

In the video (no I won't post it), he never stood a chance. He struggled a bit drawing his weapon, but the perp already had the shotgun pointing at him from about 15 feet away. The man went ahead and tried to draw anyways, instead of diving for cover into the pews. Very brave move.
