Default Dog starts house fire by switching on microwave

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-essex-50641442

Text from the article:

"A dog started a house fire when it managed to turn the microwave on, a fire service said.

The husky-type animal, which was left on its own in the house in Stanford-le-Hope, turned on the appliance, which was on a worktop in the kitchen.

A packet of bread rolls, which had been placed inside, began to burn and caused a small fire, Essex Fire Service said.

The owner, who was not at home at the time, was alerted to the fire by an app on their mobile phone.

The fire service said the owner's device allowed them to view live feeds from a camera that was set up in their house on Kingsman Road.

Geoff Wheal, watch manager at Corringham Fire Station, called it a "very strange incident" and said firefighters found the kitchen filled with smoke, but they made sure the flames did not spread to the rest of the house.

"It demonstrates that microwaves shouldn't be used to store food when they aren't in use," he said.

"Always keep your microwave clean and free of clutter or food and any packaging.

"Animals or children can turn them on more easily than you might think - so please don't run the risk."

The dog was not hurt, the service added."

We sometimes use our microwave for a breadbox so to speak - This story is mainly for those with a big dog at home smelling food before you get home - Or a kid while you're distracted - You never know

My dogs refuse to put the twist-tie back on the bread package when they get some for a snack. I've told them if they keep doing it that I'm going to take away their Xbox.

Do they at least spin the bag and fold it under?

Conspiracy, seen it a hundred times. Cat sets a fire and blames the dog.

My dog almost blew up the house, he hopped up to sniff something on the stove and his paw hit a gas burner knob enough to get it to medium without igniting. Got to the house immediately smelled it, grabbed the dog, and called fire dept.

We used to have an vintage cast iron gas stove with porcelain knobs that very easily could be bumped open - Had to use a match to light

Had a shut-off valve at the rear that we turned off whenever not using for a similar reason as it could allow gas to slowly fill the whole house ...

You taught your dog to call 911 but not that he shouldn't turn on the stove?

Under duress, the dog confessed to a deadly plot that involved luring the family cat into the microwave. And he might have gotten away with it too if the practice run with the bread had not backfired on him.
