All the advertisements at this time of year make it seem like it is common.

Yup.....several years ago when these ads started....I wondered the same thing. Never ...ever...seen husband buy a car for his wife for Christmas.

I barely know 1 or 2 people who bought their wives a car...in the history of knowing them. But it's been someone with lots of bucks, who buried it in the business. Like the owner of a Real Estate office...the head broker.

It's all over regular TV stations up there. Just last night was one for Lexus....and of course my wife elbowed me when it played.
Last week it was Mercedes Benz....all white, a Rudolf the reindeer themed commercial. Yeah I got an elbow in the rib when that aired too!

Christmas 2017. My mother in law does not have a pot to piss in. She was driving a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire. AC did not work, it did not like to start in the cold, the windscreen was cracked, tires were bad, the suspension was bad, it leaked all over the place. She had major amounts of anxiety about it, we did too as if anything happened to her it would be us taking care of it which happened several times in the past. I went to the Hyundai dealer and asked for the cheepest thing they had on the lot with an automatic transmission and A/C. We ended up buying her a 2017 Accent for about $13K and change.

Fronrath Chevrolet. That brings back memories of my parents getting a new car.

Not for Christmas. I bought my wife a 350Z that she said she liked when we drove past the dealership on a Sunday (it was in the driveway on Tuesday). Just recently got her a Jaguar F-Type R for the commute to her new job, which is kind of a late birthday/early Christmas present, though I will still get her a few other things.

Not for CHRISTMAS but did for her birthday about 15 years ago. Total surprise just drove it home and parked in the driveway. She still tells people about it.

I have not, but my dad did for my mom a few years-ago. It wasn't a surprise under the tree, but they want shopping for a new car in December.

Youngest son when asked what he wanted for Christmas answered with "a Lamborghini". So, the wife got him this for $9 on Amazon.

By far the dumbest thing on earth, especially when it's between a husband and wife. The money is presumed shared both legally and financially, so basically you're just jumping the gun without getting their input on preference, etc. Meanwhile, can look like a bigshot on Facebook.
