Default New business construction no signs of what it is?

Not sure if anyone has noticed this in your area, but I have noticed several under construction commercial building with no signs of what is coming. It is a mystery until they finally put up a sign when close to opening. The thing that is odd to me is, why not build up the hype and put a $50 sign out saying “Coming Soon” just to get people talking. Seems like a cheap and easy way to promote your business. Can anyone think of any reason not to do this? Just seems weird that they don’t.

Maybe its a builder of commercial space/ strip mall and there isn't an actual business designated for the space yet?

I’m talking Taco Bell and Dollar General that I have noticed, but probably others too. The Dollar General is kind of a dead give away once you see the building.

More and more municipalities have been changing there codes making it tough to get a permit for temp signs. And the ones that do allow it only allow them up for a short period of time.

They don’t want people stoping by to see if they are hiring.

l know the guy that builds tons of DG’s in this area, and that’s their reasoning. Sites are too small and dangerous to have extra folks wandering around during the work day.

Not sure how I answered my own question?

If you break ground on a business you are building and you are the owner of said business, let’s say a tire store, wouldn’t it make sense to let the neighborhood know you are coming soon? My question mainly is can you think of any reason why they wouldn’t put up a cheap sign during construction?

Maybe they're ignorant or maybe even stupid.

The buildings identify themselves so you know what's being built....like a Taco Bell or Dollar General.......
majority of projects have the GC Lender and intended use banners on the site fence around here

code

they don’t want people stopping in the site asking questions

some businesses the building is blatantly obvious to what it will be that there is no need for a sign.

Okay, that I would believe!

The GC and sometimes lender signs I sometimes see, just weird not the business. Sometimes they have it, but lately just noticed several examples without any sign of what’s coming.

There building so much crap so fast around you they can't make the signs fast enough.
Same thing on Hwy 54. I drive down that road and shit is going up faster than I can keep track of.

Gonna have to go on a road trip to see a cow.

if it weren’t for truck drivers not being able to find us, we would have no signs either. If your business doesn’t cater to the public, the public is just a giant annoyance. Hide from them the best you can.

I don’t want to know that bad, but thanks for not answering my question in typical THT style! LOL!

That is different and I get that. If you are a wholesale business making toasters, you don’t want people constantly walking in wanting to buy a toaster.

Maybe you should take the advise above and call the county and ask! LOL!

I have seen this happening more and more especially in south Florida. I do remodeling for a major retailer and they have a temp signing package they send out to all sites across the country but the municipalities will not allow it without a permit and some have rules stating no temp signage or banners period. Permitting is a massive pain in the ass so we usually end up just hanging the signs inside the vestibule for the 16 weeks we are on site

Yeah, this probably makes the most sense. Leave it to code enforcement to make this way more complicated than they need to be.

Is marijuana legal in your state? - Here in WA, you can tell the (legal) grow buildings by the required 8-ft chain link and barbed wire fencing tight around the building, and the massive HCAC venting. The buildings themselves are otherwise completely unmarked.

I’ve turned the lack of “Coming soon” signs into a guessing game. How early in the build can you identify the business. I’ve got a real stumper nearby right now. Looks like it’ll have a showroom, with a shop in back, and equipment storage in the back lot. I’m guessing something like a custom cabinet shop, pool/spa sales, etc.
