I signed up for the Lowes 10% Veterans discount earlier this year. The clerk said to me "Thanks for your service". That was the first time that I heard anyone say that to me since 1974. It felt really good after all those years.

Most of, rightly so, typically don't have many good stories about going to the DMV but I actually do!

While still in Texas my DL was going to expire and even though we knew we'd be moving to Florida in about a year I still needed to get it renewed. Since Texas will ID you as a Veteran on the DL (as does Florida) with showing of your DD214 I took it with me, stood in line and finally made it up to the counter. There a very nice, middle aged, Black lady noted my DD214, verbally thanked me for my service and then stood up and loudly announced I was a Veteran and ALL the employees within earshot ALL stood up and applauded.

I was both stunned and not a little embarrassed but as I walked out I couldn't help but think how cool the experience was.

This was in Irving Texas, hardly a military town.

Happy Veterans day y'all!!!

I’m a Disabled Vet and went to Home Depot to sign up for their program, nothing but headaches and I’ve got ID to prove it. Lowes was great, neither here nor there but I thank my fellow vets for their service and sacrifices.

I am not a Vet but retired after 40 years in the defense industry so I have a lot of experience working with the military as well as a whole lot of very good friends who did serve.
I salute you all. Happy Veterans Day to each and every one of you and THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!

A BIG THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE TO ALL OUR THT VETERANS!

I am glad you are much braver than I am. Without people like you, we would be living in a very different world. Thank you.

My daughters school does not take today off. Instead they celebrate Veterans Days by bringing in a few vets and having a rally type event. All the kids have little American Flags which they wave as the vets are introduced and speak. Then the vets go around and speak to the kids in their class rooms and some of the kids get up and read thank you letters which the class writes. The entire day is devoted to vets and is a learning experience for the children. My wife was there and said it was very moving event. The cafeteria (which has good food) makes them a meals as they join the kids and faculty for lunch. Many of the vets enjoy the day so much they request to come back year after year.

With that said thank you to all that served.

I hear it a lot more now than when I was serving. I still remember we were told not to fly home from VN in uniform.

Thanks to all veterans for their service.

My heart aches for all you Nam vets, the crap you dealt with in country & when you got home is detestable.
I worked with several VN vets when I was active duty (81-85) & they were all great guys.
Bless all y'all

To all my Service brothers, Happy Veterans Day. Let us also remember those who are no longer with us. If asked, I would do it all over again.

A BIG THANK YOU to ALL of our Vets and active duty folks!

I will probably the LAST vet in my family - Dad was a vet (Army/Air Force), his brother was a vet (Army), and his sister was a vet (WAC). There are a couple of distant uncles and cousins that are/were vets (none currently on active duty), but that's IT.

I've got 2 kids - son 42 and daughter 38 - both having passed the age to join and never really expressed an interest in joining.

I PROUDLY served in the Navy (Reserves, but 2 years active duty) 12/66-12/72:

NAVCOMTRACEN (Naval Communications Training Center) - Cory Field - Pensacola, FL
NAVCOMSTA (Naval Communications Station) - Naval Security Group Activity/23 Div. - CTR/T3 - Finegayan, Guam

Regards,
