Passed a small kitten not too long ago in the middle of a rural back road and thought to myself that sucks. As I passed, I looked down and the thing looked up at me. I slowed down and thought I should go back and put it out of its misery so I turned around. When I got back beside it, the thing ran into the ditch. Turned out it wasn't hurt at all just very small, wet, and tired. I brought it home and it has made a great pet. We live on a particular road that sees a lot of animals dumped out. My wife and I, mom and dad, brother and SIL, have taken in 12 strays and gotten at least that many more to the shelter. I just can't understand how someone can dump an animal, especially a puppy or kitten! Special place in hell for them.
Back to the cat. It plays fetch with me better than any of my dogs except my duck dog!

My cats Harley and Sasha.
I found Harley under a bush when he was the size of my hand, full of fleas and ear mites. He's a great cat with some positive doglike traits.
Sasha was a rescue from a shelter. A guy bought her at a Pet store, then apparently released her a week or two later. Someone found her around their house and brought her to a shelter, and because she had an ID tattoo, they were able to trace the owner. They made 5 or six calls to him over 3 weeks, and he never returned them......She mainly eats and sleeps!

Strays are way cheaper than pure bread. My Tonkinese ( Burmese/Siamese mix ) that is closest to the fireplace is my medically expensive cat. He was born will respiratory issues. My others were all born of strays, only bill for them is usually annual vet visit unless they manage to get hurt. Two of them have been shot with BB guns and one got caught on a barbed wire fence. We love them but when they are gone we don’t intend on getting any more animals. Still have a way to go though, they are 16, 11 and 10 years old.
