Default Ugh. Might be unexpectedly shopping for a car.

Wife hit a deer this evening out in the center of Pennsylvania. Fortunately she wasn't hurt. 2013 Kia Optima with only 34k miles. Thinking it might be totalled. Don't know for sure. What do you think judging by this picture?

PITA for sure , those cars tend to have expensive parts . That could cause a total loss .

Always amazed at the level of damage from a deer strike. Wife of a friend hit two in two weeks back in the day. First one down the side of her Blazer, then one head on with his new Z-28. Major damage to both.

On the theory that things happen in three’s, he threatened to kill her if she even thought about driving her Ferrari 308.

Glad your our wife is ok. Cars can be replaced.

First I'm glad she is okay. Scary thing to happen.

Assuming she drives that route frequently and the car is totaled, may I suggest a car with (I think it's called this) active cruise control.

It monitors the road out front to help avoid these types of collision while in cruise control (can be turned on and off manually). I have this on my Terrain. Could be a life saver.

I think a number of manufactures offer this on select cars.

Yeah, air bags deployed. I'm guessing it's totalled, but I'm really not experienced with these things.

Looks totalled. With air bag deployment and the number of front end components damaged that's a large repair bill

Never know. I hit a deer at 4 am going to the airport. Looked as bad as yours. 2004 Honda Element with 150K miles. Repair was something like 5K if I remember.

Not sure why it wasn't totaled by USAA. There was no frame damage - if it matters.

The insurance waived my deductible for my deer accident, mine was both side doors on the driver side when a deer ran full speed into the side of my Traverse. $5K damage.

Why would you want it back? Glad she's OK and this happens far too often.

Likely totaled, but an air bag deployment isn't a death sentence for a car. You may have luck buying it back from the insurance company and having it repaired. Value will be crap at that point, but won't necessarily be a bad car if the $'s work. Discuss the option with your collision shop.

Got one in West Pa couple years ago . Hard on brakes and got slowed to about 15 mph and it trotted alongside me a bit kinda hanging out - Ooo nature is so beautiful - and I thought I was good then it cut hard to the right for some reason and took out dr side fender/ light . gd things . Still don't know why I haven't hit a pig cutting across FL , they're thick .

I say totaled but just gut feeling . Glad wife OK , that's the important part

Up here in the " frozen tundra" many people use trucks with a healthy set of "booger bars". Usually destroys the deer with minimal damage to vehicle.

Get some of those whistles that warn deer to stay away.
But don't put them on backwards because they will call the deer!
