Default 2021 Ford Bronco revealed as Baja 1000 racing truck

The new Bronco is busting out.

(Ford)

Ford has unveiled a racing version of the soon-to-be rebooted SUV ahead of its debut as a production model next spring. The Bronco R offers the first look at the design of the 2021 truck and will be competing in this year’s Baja 1000 in Mexico on Nov. 22.

(For)

The modern styling is clearly inspired by the 1966 original’s, particularly its peaked front fenders, the shape of its wheel openings and the rectangular grille with the word BRONCO written across it instead of FORD.

(Ford)

Built on a frame that it shares with the Ford Ranger pickup -- as the showroom Bronco will be -- the Bronco R has a roll cage, four-wheel drive, an independent front suspension and a twin-turbocharged EcoBoost engine that Ford isn’t releasing further details about. Nevertheless, the automaker says the turbos “are representative of what the production Bronco will offer.”

(Ford)

While very little about the retail Bronco has officially been confirmed, it is expected to come in two-door and four-door versions and feature a removable roof and doors like the Jeep Wrangler, which will be its top competition. Ford has promised to introduce a hybrid model at some point and a note in the tentative labor agreement reached with the UAW last week suggests it will have an aluminum body like the F-150, according to the Bronco6G fan forum.

(Ford)

The Bronco will be produced alongside the Ranger at Ford’s Michigan Assembly Plant.

First-generation Broncos took the overall victory at the Baja 1000 in 1968, 1969, 1971 and 1972. The new truck will be competing in Class 2 at the event this year, but is there primarily for testing purposes.

Nice. Looks like they won't be dropping the ball like Land Rover did with the new Defender.

Not bad looking, but it looks like it was modeled after a 4 door Jeep with a hard top.

Nice , but man I still love the originals.

We are looking to get a new midsize SUV (3 rows preference) for the wife or a Jeep wrangler and I trying to delay that till the bronco comes out.

I thought Toyota was on the right track when they brought out the FJ, it's a shame they canceled it.

I've been wanting someone to reintroduce a 2 door body on frame full size SUV like the Chevy k5 blazer or the full size Bronco.

See, GOVERNMENT MOTORS, this is how you bring back a classic, unlike the abomination you put out in the new POS Blazer.

Good stuff, FoMoCo.

It's a shame that automotive styling reached it's peak in the 1960's. That's why just about every hot thing today is retro.

Yeah, that new Blazer is not worthy of its name. It's been millenialized (pussified).

You are correct. It is yet another soccer mom crossover POS to add to GMs long list of highly forgettable soccer mom crossover POS vehicles.

Throw the Cherokee in there as well, and the Pathfinder. POSs, the lot of them.

This week has been awesome. Announced that it will be debuted in the spring, The Baja race truck..

I am praying that Ford Bronco R Race edition implies a Raptor version and that it has a 2.7L V6.

We will be one of the first... Already made a deal with a dealer... We have been waiting for 6 years. My FJ Cruiser is 14 years old now...

We'll see what happens...but I'll bet a few pints of Guinness that it'll be a richie rich mall crawler that just wants to "looks tough"..kinda like most of the new Jeeps.
But never owned by anyone that could A)Change the oil B) Jack it up to swap out a flat tire

I hope not...Jeeps have always (well, for the last few decades) been a chick car, especially the Wrangler. Now with the 4 door that just expanded in popularity.

I'm hoping it'll be similar to the FJ in that most who own it are at least decently familiar with what a real 4x4 vehicle is.

But you may be absolutely right.

The roads here have gone to shit, I drive a new F-250 that I feel like is being ruined just driving around town. Last week my truck was in the shop for some service work and I borrowed my sons Raptor, that thing feels like it was made for crappy roads. The way things are going I may be forced to buy one of the baja type trucks just to navigate the crumbling infrastructure.......with a snorkel for all the floods.

this is old but it is absolutely insane, boobs, balls and no brains

Hope so but probably for Race.

It looks like a 4 Door frame with 2 door styling for Baja. Ford has been very tight lipped about the new Bronco but it's looking like it may be worth the wait - at least for me ;-) I have been a lifelong GM guy but bought a Raptor this year and have to say i have been very impressed with suspension and engine - yea i know its a V6 but it has incredible torque and 13" of travel is amazing. I hope they offer the 2 door Bronco with the 3.5 HO, just take my $ if they do.
